Hope I dont get in trouble for this but....

I sent Jon an email with an idea, contact him tomorrow and ask him about the idea storm emailed to him.
Storm...I hope your pain is under control today.

I talked to Jonathan and your idea was fantastic,
30.gif
but unfortunately not possible to execute.

( Sorry, everyone, I can''t post details)
38.gif

Gypsy... You are so very helpful!!!!! Thank you so much for all your ideas, research, etc.
35.gif

Jonathan is on track again with the dilemma and thinks he may have come up with a solution.
9.gif
We''ll have to wait and see what happens.

( Sorry, can''t provide details as yet)
38.gif

As usual, the PS''ers have been a great help to me. Thank you all very much.

Whew! Good.

Let us know what you can, when you can then.

ETA: for those wondering about the sapphire. Just spoke to the guy. HE doesn't do them himself. He is the internet guy. They work with a manufacturer in NY. He wouldn't give me the information on that manufacturer though. It's killing me not knowing who it is though. I MUST know. Anyone have ideas on how we can find out??

Isaku,

I''m from Montreal Quebec...quite a beautiful state to live in. Honestly, Leon''s temperement isn''t bad at all. If anything, I see it as pride. If you send him a picture and say "can you copy this for me" he''ll say he doesn''t do reproductions. He feels he is a master craftman and therefore shouldn''t copy. But if you tell him him what you want, he''ll make suggestions, etc., but he will do what you want. He also takes on projects that he likes, and he''s intrested in. If he feels that your image of the finish product is too far from his, he will say so, and that''s it.

I think if you can''t find someone who can make your peice, then it''s worth a try to contact him. I suppose you''ve contacted Quest as well?

I have another name...I''m having a men''s wedding band made by Maytal Hoftman. She did some work for a member that I thought was gorgeous. The band isn''t done yet, but she was extremely reasonably priced. I''ll have to see how the band turns out I suppose before giving a solid recommendation.

Hope you figure out your setting woes!

She did contact Quest but they have never made one and she was a little nervous about being the first....

ally, I believe isaku did email Leon and said he won't do the baguette halo's anymore. They are very difficult and time consuming and as gypsy pointed out, the one on his site isn't perfect so sounds like he'd rather not deal with a potential headache.

here''s a thought.

if the setting is proving so problematic..and you are thinking seriously about the daniel k option with their stone...rather than going custom with your fabu asscher...

i would call bill pearlman and ask if HE can get you a deal on it. because honestly if this other vendor was able to get some sort of as-yet-unnamed special deal, why wouldn''t another DK retailer be able to get a great deal as well?

(Although... it might be worth it to call Bill Pearlman about the Daniel K and have him make a special, one time only request of Daniel K to use your asscher instead of thiers). Because well, that asscher-- while not as nice as this one-- was still very beautiful.
I agree. bill mentioned in the other thread that it has happened, even very rarely that DK will set someone''s stone. I would at least enquire about it futher. Wouldn''t that be the absolute best of both worlds? Your gorgeous stone and the DK setting?

Msalvo,

Isaku''s response to my suggestion led me to believe that it''s a temperment issue and not a contact or ability issue. Which is why I was clarifying for her and sharing my experience. As I clearly posted in a previous post I haven''t read the ENTIRE THREAD, so I wasn''t sure if she had contacted him or not.

Ally, where in Canada do you live? Thanks for the Leon suggestion; I certainly wouldn''t question his capability, but wonder, after reading about his temperament on PS whether he and I could take turns being boss

ok sorry. I was only trying to give you info I didn''t know if you had. Maybe it was Gypsy who said Leon wouldn''t do baguette halo''s. all these custom asscher projects. i can''t keep them straight

.

If Isaku hasn''t given Leon a shot at a quote, then she should go for it..

Wasn''t it about 2.19 if memory serves??? Maybe that is still a possibility???

I''m happy to report that as of tonight, all bases have been covered.

kaleigh...you''re close, it''s a 2.26c asscher
3.gif

mrssalvo...Advice taken to heart

ally...Thank you too. Montreal, Quebec is indeed a beautiful city. Our family has enjoyed many vacations in both Montreal and Quebec City. When I was teaching, a fellow teacher, DH and I took 18 Grade 12 students (15 girls and 3 boys) to Quebec, Nova Scotia, and PEI for the one week March Break. On the return trip, we were storm-stayed in QC for an extra day- What a great time we had!
35.gif

ok, once again i''m confused
33.gif

are you keeping the 2.26? still considering the DK from DBOF? still deciding and exploring all your options?? help me see the light
41.gif

Isaku: How ironic because I just spent the entire on the net looking up info on PEI
1.gif
It's one of my must sees...especially Anne of Green Gables
11.gif
. Unfortunately I'm on a budget, and it's a 15 hour drive from Montreal so I don't think it's a viable option. I want to go to PEI and iles de Madelaine. I'm practically salivating at the thought of being able to do this trip. So I'm crunching numbers, looking up hotels. ARGH.

But back to your setting, I hope you're able to work it out. I think it's difficult when you have a gorgeous stone you love, but you can't set it in the equally gorgeous setting you love. Honestly though, looking at your setting, it looks complex and difficult...by no means something that is easy to make. Maybe the Daniel K isn't such a terrible idea. However, the fact that Gypsy found an avatar with beautiful baguette work leads me to believe that someone can do it. Don't get discourgaed yet!

i'm confused too.

the reason being, is that over on diamondtalk you have the other 2.19c stone in your avatar, your title of the thread is 'maybe soon this will be mine' and you said you are fundraising to get the real DK setting, assumedly from the vendor who is giving you the smoking hot deal.

but yet here on PS, you still are talking about setting the asscher from GOG and have THAT stone in your avatar and are upset that you can't find anyone to work on the custom setting for you whom you trust..and mentioned that Jonathan is working to figure out a way to get the setting going for you.

so color me really confused as well. what are you really planning on doing? i'm sure the people who are trying to help you would appreciate a little consistency...especially the vendors who both seem to feel like they have a bird in the hand.

I''m the one that''s confusing you, mrssalvo. Sorry.

I will try to clarify a little:

I still own the 2.26, but am considering having it put in the DK setting, or having a custom setting made ( Jonathan made an interesting suggestion; considering that too).

Also, still very much in the mix, is the DK 2.19 in the DK bag halo setting.

That''s what I meant when I said that all bases were covered as of tonight.

I hope that helps.

No" stringing along" going on at all. All vendors in question are fully aware of the situation and realize that the decision is an important one as the resulting ring will be pricey.

Did you ever get a price on the Daniel K ring?

thanks for clarifying Isaku. I hope one of the options on the table works out and you end up compelely happy.

So.........since you have all the info, you are the best one to decide which route to take, not us. And when you decide whether you want to just take the DK/asscher or use the 2.26, then we can try to help you. I feel rather confused now that we''ve tried to brainstorm with you on who can make your bagg setting when you are on another forum saying you''re just going to take the premade set. Let us know when you decide.

I have several options on the table only as of tonight, FG. A couple of them came from the brainstorming of the PS''ers.

When I first saw and heard the DK "package deal" I was smitten and thus the posts on DT. On the other hand, I love the 2.26 diamond and am unwilling to give it up completely until all avenues have been explored and all prices given.

Guess we''ll wait and see what you decide then.

The only thing I want to 'see' anytime soon is the finished product pictures...

I bet Isaku''s close to feelin'' that way!!! I know that no matter WHAT You decide, we just can''t wait to see the BIG OLD BLING finished and on your hand!!!

Isaku, I am sure this is so stressful to have this stunning stone, know what you want and for logistical reasons be taking one step forward and two back in terms of getting the finished product. Is there any chance (I know this is off the wall a bit) for you to take the stone, after you do some research, and bring it to the states, a big city, and see about having it made? Maybe if you are there in person with photos and such, it will be easier?! I am not trying to be naive, but think some of the issues involve making sure all along the way you are comfortable and the end product is what you want. Getting the stone back and forth with customs etc seems so problematic...my cousin is a jeweler in LA and she does tons of custom work, I think people here have mentioned her, and I know it is a complicated process...good luck...you are so close to the finish yet there are obstacles too!
