I'm looking to buy an engagement ring soon. I've read dozens of FAQS and guide, but I still have some odd questions...
1. If you see a diamond you like, can you ask to use their loupe? Is that rude? Or do you bring your own? I can't imagine myself being the kind of guy who whips out a loupe from his pocket.
2. Can you negotiate on prices? I've never been able to negotiate on anything around here.
3. Do you ask for the certification and grading right away or is that off-putting?
4. My girlfriend has metal allergies. Do they actually know what metals are in their alloys? The last time I was buying a valentine's gift I asked and got answers like "white gold is a mixture of gold and white metal" and "18K gold is 100% pure gold made white" before I just left.
5. Are all salesmen diamond experts? How do you tell? Can I ask for a diamond expert? Is the manager an expert on diamonds, or just someone who's good at managing diamond stores?
Thanks!
