Rainbow reflecting diamonds??

Hello all,

I was looking around PS and stumbled upon LKNVRB4 beautiful diamond!!

LKNVRB4, hope you don't mind me snipping your image.. if this is not allowed I will take the image down..



So, I love how you can see colors in the reflection, and I was wondering what do I need to look for in order to have that kind of look?
Are these colors referred as "fire" or "scintillation" ?

Is this due to the florescence, or the J color, or will certain cuts reflect this way??

Can any diamond expert please point me to a link if this was a previously discussed topic?

Some diamonds, like 60/60's give off more white light. Some diamonds, those with smaller tables and higher crowns like Tolks., lean toward colored light. That plus good photography, and making sure that the stone has a lot of color to reflect is what you are seeing there I suspect. My Brian Gavin Signature diamonds were very good about giving off colored light. So if you want that look you want a stone with a smaller table and a higher crown.

If you want the most colored light though, IMO, you should appreciate old cuts. I have never seen any MRB that can complete with the best cut OECs for colored light reflection. They are like rainbow machines because of the high crowns and larger facets. Yeah. They are. Once you fall in love with them....

I have a new one (new to me) on my hand right now. One of the prettiest OEC's I've ever seen.



It's not the J color. It's not the fluorescence. It's the cut. And the photography. And what the stone is reflecting. Diamonds reflect.

Gypsy, when you say high crown, how high can it go? 36? or even higher?
Thanks for looking at diamonds for me :D...
 
I don't know that I've seen many with crowns over 36 having ideal/ excellent light performance. The angles have to balance each other correctly. I think I've seen 36.5 work out a couple times but that's about it.

I'm not an angles expert thoigh. Someone like John Pollard or Yssie woukd be more help with that.

I always like the out of budget ones too.

Bring your diamond under a tree and you will get a rainbow. But it's so hard to capture on photos.
