Hey @kenny and @Karl_K,

I have some questions about Octavia diamonds but I'd rather keep it private. Any ideas on how we can get in touch?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, but per PS rules I can't give contact information.
It's a security thing related to the value of the baubles we post about owning.
(Besides I'm obviously an angel living in Heaven. :halo:) ...

How's bout I answer a few Octavia questions I've seen before on PS? ...
BTW, since Karl is a trade member he is much more restricted in what he can volunteer.
PS does not want PS to become a tacky trade bazar where every seller you pass near is yelling their self-promotions, though one vendor here gets away with murder on that.
I suppose I do yell Octavia promotions to anyone who'll listen, but I don't make a penny from my efforts.
IIRC if you ask specific questions Karl is allowed to give specific answers.

I'm not in the trade so I can say whatever I like, which I do, to the chagrin of many. :boohoo:
Karl and Yoram and others, please feel free to correct any mistakes I've posted here.

Does an Octavia's light performance really rival a well-cut round?
Yes.
For years I enjoyed two rounds of very high-end cut and light performance, a Whiteflash ACA and a Solasfera.
IOW I know what good light performance is.
Additionally, because of the Octavias high crown superb a light show is enjoyed more off-axis than with a round, which you have look down into to get the peak light performance.
This means you don't have to flip your wrist up to look straight down into the crown on-axis to get your eyeball-orgasms.

Why are Octavias so expensive per carat compare to standard asschers.
IIRC, two reasons.
1. Normally they get two diamonds from an octahedron rough that uses a good percentage of the rough.
But the Octavia's angles and high crown means more 'wasted' rough and a smaller second diamond from that octahedron rough.
It is hard to find a rough diamond for which it makes financial sense to cut into an Octavia.

2. They are extremely difficult/challenging/time consuming to cut.
Only a very seasoned highly-qualified cutter can pull it off.
That cutter, first name Yoram, posts here under the screen name DiaGem.

Is Octavia a man's diamond cut?
No, many women have posted on PS that they are delighted with theirs.

Can I order an Octavia custom cut to order?
Yes.
My very strongly-preferred Octavia vendor Good Old Gold has done this for a poster here, Dancing Fire.
BTW www.goodoldgold.com shows two Octavias in inventory.

Here's a fascinating 13-page thread that follows Dancing Fire's Octavia diamond from rough to ring.

Why are Octavias not better-known and more widely available?

IMO, chicken and egg.
As explained above they are pricey, hard to find rough for, and hard to cut.
Few people have seen them in person.
When I bought the first Octavia ever sold I was so very very moved by its brilliance and beauty.
I decided then and there I'd spread the word as best I could, and hone my photography skills to try to show it off.
But no pics do the Octavia justice.

Well, those five questions are all that come to mind now.
If I think of others I'll post.

@kenny, I hit the motherload with your post! I’m pretty short on time these days, so it’s great to have all this information in one place. Can’t thank you enough!

Thanks @PintoBean, I’ll try to find your contact information now. :-)

I’d like to keep this private so my wife won’t know exactly what I’m scheming! :twisted2:
