Question: Is there a difference?

You made me laugh out loud! Thank you for the offer!

Okay, the last photo you posted of @dreamer_dachsie's ring is one of the photos I sent to SW! I adore the cut of her stone. I think it's a similar flavor to the first photo you posted, though the first one has a bigger table (57-58%?) and Dreamer's table is closer to 50%. Since you already have a 57.5% table, it might work out perfectly that the first one is your favorite! The second photo will look and behave quite differently--is it a Canera European Round?

THANK YOU!!

I know nothing of the angles and tables… do I tell him or he’ll let me know what is best? what did you choose for the table on your amazing transitional halo? I know on an old cut we would see closer to the 50… I have decent room so I could ask for smaller…. I guess I will ask him and see what he says! The middle one was on first dibs:

He'll let you know what's best! He might give you a few options with varying proportions, and you could post here for feedback. Here's a thread from xxxxxx about her beautiful recut, also by Ashley. My table was already pretty small (for an MRB) at 54.5%, so we kept it almost the same (it's now 54.7%). He cut primarily in the pavilion, where I had extra depth. For yours, I'm guessing he will re-cut both the crown and pavilion.

Thank you! I emailed him yesterday so I will see what he says. When I was originally looking for the labs you can set the table in the filter, so I was looking at ones with smaller tables, but they were smaller carat sizes, I figured getting the 3 carat and then letting him cut the 'right' way would probably work out the same in the end. I hope! LOL

Saw this Transitional soli and wanted to post in case the facet pattern speaks to you

Thank you- OMG!! I actually love this whole diamond lol thank you so much for thinking of me!

I know myself and I feel like I’m going to wind up getting another antique diamond at some point, I love the idea of it having history and being a real antique but this is fun because it’s an expensive and I can have multiple rings! I wish I could’ve loved my old L color … but the L was too much. I like warm but the L was just too much

So, the point of my post was to see if there was really any difference between an $8000 diamond or my cheaper $2900 diamond (with the same stats on paper) or if they were basically the same thing and a diamond is a diamond & you’re just paying for the cut…. Not that one starting “rough” is any “better”.

I got the James Allen $8k same stats diamond … and I am happy to report that it performs the same as my (SIGNIFICANTLY) cheaper one does. I so my “cheapie” lab grown is now in a FedEx box on its way to be re-cut! Before I wasted the $2900 on a diamond AND money on the recut I wanted to make sure that it was performing like it should. I know the recut will make it even better… but it’s not bad in the first place I just *want* a transitional cut because that’s what my grandmother had and because I have a perfect Alex park OEC already.

He’s estimating that I should wind up with 2.62 carats down from 3 carats… I told him I was shooting for 2.5 carats so I said as long as it’s 2.5 I’ll be happy & I’d rather have him cut more and get me exactly the pattern and performance I want!

If anyone is interested here’s a comparison of the 3 carat Ritani that I purchased for $2900 versus a 2.8 carat James Allen hearts and arrows that was $8k in several lights.

If I had to say anything I’d say the James Allen maybe had a little more rainbow sparkle to it than my current one but I am recutting mine so I think I will get better performance

I think I take good pictures of the diamonds generally, however it’s very hard to get them both to be facing exactly the same angle while simultaneously holding my cell phone so I think some of the differences is just one is facing in all it’s glory better than the other one lol
James Allen is 1 & Ritani is 2 …

Definitely! Especially since you are having it recut! I can't wait to see the finished ring!!

Thanks for the side-by-side. I also wondered if there are differences between the lab diamonds from different vendors (w same stats).

me too, im dying that i have to wait... LOL especially because my other one is at David Klass being reset so i am learning patience

exactly! I feel like WHY is one so much less than the other? I guess it really is just what someone is willing to pay for it? They were both G color, VS2, 2.8 carat for JA and 3 carat for my Ritani. the JA was designated hearts and arrows, so maybe that was why it was more? But if it was $5k more?? In any event, i needed to just see it for myself LOL

So the one in your avatar, you are not having that recut are you? I laughed at your post to @Kimn about being a CPA and a tattoo artist! That is 2 different skills for sure but I love the diversity!! I missed the thread concerning the reset by David .....

Great to have peace of mind about your diamond! The comparison photos are so helpful--I don't see anything that would make the James Allen stone $5K more. And how exciting that you'll likely end up at 2.62cts! How long will the re-cut take?

LOL! OMG, I didn't mean to mislead in my post - I am a CPA and I draw, but wouldn't say I'm an artist at all! I'm just covered in tattoos and know a lot about them.

So my long sordid story made short: I sold my antique L colored 2.27 earth diamond, bought an Alex Parks G color OEC which was 2.5 carats so it's a little too big for my setting, the prongs were barely holding on, so i am just having David remake the setting so it fits the new diamond properly.

Then i additionally bought this MRB lab because i cant decide between the OEC or a transitional.

So now I will have my original setting with Alex's 2.5 OEC (avatar) and then I will have (after the recut) a 2.6 transitional that im trying to decide on a setting. I have a few ideas but want to wait until I get my 'real' ring back before i decide for sure because i dont want to make them look too much alike and the setting I'm contemplating may be too similar.

Thanks for asking, no one in my real life cares about this stuff LOL

I didn't ask! I assume he'll contact me to go over stuff when he receives it and let me know. I also asked him if he could send to GIA to have it re-certified for me, so im sure that will take on a bunch of time. I feel like GIA would be better to recertify it rather than IGI. Did you re-certify yours?

Oh I see..... and I understand.... most people in my life don't really care too except when they need my help finding an engagement ring.... LOL!
