Question for Simon G Solitaire

Hello! I've been a long-time reader/lurker. I'm finally at the engagement stage and very excited to ask my first question Has anyone seen the Simon G MR2948 ring in person? Or do you know of others who own this ring? I've only seen sample pics on WF and from Simon G. The ring seems very nice and it matches much of the criteria my FF has for an ER. My concern is how the prongs flow with the rest of the shank. I know she wants a design that is fluid and doesn't have awkward space/end points in that area, similar to how the tiffany and vatche u113 rings appear when they are nested within the shank (she's not a big fan of the mini "donut" that slightly juts out on those rings which is why I'm not considering them, though I think they are beautiful). She also wants a softer knife edge.

I know CAD and other web pics can make details seem more pronounced than what they really are. I've been searching online hoping to find more pics of this ring zoomed in on a hand from different angles or short video clips of it in real life (my preference to see it in action). Unfortunately I've had zero luck. I also don't live near a Simon G retailer so viewing a sample ring and taking close up pics of it is not an option (Anyone live near one and willing to go on a pics mission to help a guy out?)

Simon G is not able to offer additional pics and I'm not sure where I'm getting the diamond from yet so would hate to bother WF this early in the stage. Any help/insight you all could provide is appreciated.

Would also love your opinions and recommendations about the general quality of this ring/designer as an option for someone interested in a soft knife edge ring for a 1-1.5 carat diamond.

I'm sure that WF would be pleased to have the opportunity to provide additional pics if they have the ring in-house, and their 'A Cut Above' or 'Expert Selection' MRB stones are some of the best you can buy so would be an excellent choice.

If it ends up not to your taste in terms of 'fluidity' they would be able to do custom work.

And if you are considering custom work, you should also consider the CBI stones sold through High Performance Diamonds - HPD uses the same bench as Harry Winston, if I understand it correctly, so there would be no issues in terms of quality!

I apologize for the delay on the images. All of our designer engagement rings in the showroom have a placeholder CZ in the centers. The prongs are lightly notched to present the stone but are not fully burnished. For these reasons they do not look exactly like the actual finished ring with a diamond set in it. To do justice to this photo request we are having a diamond set in the piece. We are doing a series of still images and also video. They will be ready by end of day today and I will post them here.

These are great pics and help me clearly see the details of the ring for the first time, which is very exciting. Thank you @Texas Leaguer. I agree it is a very clean, simple design. At the risk of being a pain, did you happen to capture a more direct, non-angled pic or video of the profile of the ring on the hand (north/south side)? I'd like to get a better idea of how low the ring truly sits on the hand as my FF is a nurse. It would also help me see how much clearance she will have for a pave eternity wedding band that won't hit the prongs. Thanks again.

I would really appreciate if any additional PSers could offer me a female perspective on this ring. I do like that it won’t have the donut which she continues to not want for her future plain wedding band and eternity wedding bands. I also think the prongs seem to be a little more delicate looking (to my eye) from the top view than the tab ones on the Vatche U113, especially for a smaller 1 carat diamond. And I appreciate the softer knife edge, but wonder if it’s too thick? Is there anything I’m overlooking on this ring that may not be appealing from a female perspective? Is it delicate enough? Im excited to move forward but also don’t fully trust my tastes on their own since I’ve never shopped for a ring like this before and wouldn’t be the one wearing it. If it helps for perspective, my FF is a nurse and tends to be very minimalist in her jewelry (usually one silver band middle finger ring, a watch, and small diamond earrings is her common daily wear). I'm not female but IMHO I think it's a good choice for a nurse - if she is allowed to wear jewellery while on duty (I know some places are 'bare below the elbow') then the simple design with easy access to the pavilion will mean it is much easier to clean and keep clean than a more fussy design with melee or pavé stones.

Could it be thinner / more delicate? It could, and some people like that, but thinner also means it might be more susceptible to damage, which could happen if she is constantly using her hands and, potentially, lifting and moving both people and equipment.

You could consider asking WF if they could make the prongs more 'pointy', which a lot of people on PS like, but as per the above, it may be that they would become too delicate and also at more risk of catching on things than the slightly-rounded ends on the current design.


Ultimately you will always be taking a risk with whatever you buy if your intended has not specified exactly what she wants, but I think this is a classically-designed, simple and understated ring that seems to suit how you describe her (IMHO).

female perspective here....this setting looks close to my eye to the tiffany setting. it is *the* classic engagement ring. i like that this variation is low set which will be great for anyone who works with their hands but also just convenient in general. and the prongs look like they will be tiny in person, i wouldn't necessarily change them to be more claw like. i think the ring will look pretty dainty in real life. good luck!
