Hi Guys,

I am looking for an engagement ring and have been looking at diamonds for a while..

I have been looking at a diamond which gets a HCA score of 1.1 but the Depth is 59.9% and Table is 59%. Crown is 32.5 and Pavilion is 41.0

Both the table and depth in the range I am looking at.

table sizes should be: ~53-57%
depth sizes should be: ~60-62%

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Is it ok to purchase diamonds of these %?

The diamond is a 1.01ct F VS2 by the way.

Thanks
Tony

Tony, those would not be measurements that I would choose because I think there are better ones. I don't like the shallow crown because those can be more prone to chipping. I pretty much stick to table 54-58, depth 60-62, crown angle 34-35, and pavilion angle 40.6-41.0. That is generally a diamond that will fall in AGS Ideal and GIA Excellent territory. Yes, there are other combinations that are okay. But I simply do not think that diamonds with large tables and flatter crowns are as attractive as diamonds with the criteria above. I am sure some people would be quite happy with that diamond, though.

Thanks for that.

I am also looking at another diamond with much better specs.

57% table
61.8% depth
35 crown
41 pavilion

It has a small crystal in the middle.

6.52-5.55x4.04

What do you think of this? It doesn't measure as well on the HCA though.

It is more expensive than the previous one.

Thanks

I am assuming that is a typo for the measurement...6.52x6.55, right?

Those measurements can absolutely be fine. Does the diamond vendor do idealscope images? That is the next thing you need. I like these measurements better than the other one, but it is always best to see the idealscope image to be sure there is no leakage.

Hi diamonseeker2006,

I can ask that. May I ask w hat is the purpose of the ideal scope? I tried to look around but don't really understand it.

I have the GIA Cert #

Regards
Tony

Julie gave you the idealscope info, and I agree with her that magnified images of the stone would be the other thing we need!

Hi Guys,

I am going to look at the original diamond 59 table 59.9 depth this weekend.

Even though the table and depth isn't within the ideal range, some people say 53-61 is acceptable for table.

I will have a look at the actual diamond because the guy is holding onto it.
It measures 1.1 on the HCA compared to the other one which has ideal specs (2.4).

He will also provide me with Ideal scope pictures.

Thanks for the help and input. I will let you guys know how I go.

Tony
