Also @Dreamer_D that website causes me issues too being in Australia. I figured out if I used a proxy browser from the US to search then things would come up and it did. Lol

@maryjane04 oh! That website always causes me issues being in Canada for some reason. I can’t really look things up.
That original diamond is not bad. It is a little dark under the table but the obstruction isn’t awful. It doesn’t appear to have awful leakage or fish eye or nail head or those real deal breakers. That style of old cut is hard to find, and being so old and wonky I don’t mind if it’s not perfect. Wanting a stone M color or better is also a limitation ana most large OMCs that survived are cape color. Ideally a slightly smaller table among other things would help it be more lively. It is possible to find a stone with a nicer cut but it may not have the proportions that you like otherwise. But seeing it in person is really ideal and you are lucky to do that. Comparing it to others is even better. Look at it in lots of lighting and make sure you like how it looks across settings. The incisions appear to be white and dispersed so it may not bother you too much. Again, assess in person and also examine with a loupe so you really know what you are getting. What does the report say about the girdle?
I don’t like the setting it’s in though. Very high and exposed is not the best for antiques especially ones that have a more fragile girdle. I would personally want to protect the diamond with either a faux bezel or lots of prongs — like 10! It may be ok temporarily but I’d want to change it asap.
I can’t really comment on price as I don’t track huge rocks.
Please keep us posted on your visits!! Take lots of pictures and videos for us!!
Gonna tag @LightBright @newtojewels and @Lookinagain and @EllieTO as well.
She's here!
Linking the a video here.
GIA report and another picture attached. She is a bit deep so I definitely need to do some collaborative work with a jeweler to find a way to more securely, and hopefully a teeny bit lower, without losing impact.
My fiancé did all the final numbers, but the range was $21.5 - $22.5 K.

Congratulations and it looks great on you. So glad your fiance was able to score a deal. You both did well!
If you are thinking of swapping out the setting for something with more protection… I LOVE the simplicity of an 8 prong… simple yet a little something extra because it’s 8 vs 6. Do you follow Joselyn on Guilded Lane on IG? She had DK make a beautiful simple 8 prong, but the shoulders had a floral feel to it - very pretty.

I love that setting.
I have been VERY MIA but here are a few more pics!
I definitely notice the warm color in certain light, and feeling pretty strongly about wanting to protect the girdle more because I notice the wear and tear from over the years.
I am also including a video so you can get up close and personal with the imperfections, obviously though, this is much more magnified than I can ever see it, but I'm sure it highlights some of the things a few you would have been concerned about! I still love it though.

I prefer 6 prongs, but I'm leaning towards 8 prong for peace of mind, even though I'm not as big of a fan of the floral or crown-like basket I'll probably need. I'll work with the team and see what I can do though!

It's lovely on you! I think because the girdle is so exposed and you can see more tint from the side. Maybe when you have 8 prongs covering the girdle the tint will be less visible.
I LOVE this stone…. It’s so pretty!!! It’s a beautiful size on you too! Old things shouldn’t be “perfect” … I like to think of their “imperfections”, frosty girdle with flea bites, etc… as part of that stones finger print. Mother Nature made that beautiful stone, and if it makes your heart sing, then you have found “your” stone. Yes we can pick it apart and point out all the imperfections under a magnifying lens, one should always know what they are buying… but in the end what matters most is how YOU feel when you see it, and are you happy with what you paid for her. And I can promise you, even if you didn’t get the deal of the century- if that stone makes your heart sing, that is all that matters.
I would love to see what you are envisioning for your setting! This is the fun part! If you are more of a visual person, I love sifting through old Sotheby’s and Christie’s listings for ideas… that is how I found my setting.
Oh I'll absolutely look at Sothebys and Christies listings. I do think I'm going to go more modern / simple though, just based on my typical style. I also like the idea of the juxtaposition of the antique stone in a more modern setting. I feel like I may go something like this one from Material Good (though likely not cathedral setting) or maybe if I go more antique something like this Tiffany ring at Erstwhile (but with more prongs). I want to try and get the stone lower set as well, so I think both options may allow for that.
I'm going to go 2 tone, and I do think I want a thicker band, maybe 2mm wide.

I love that first one! Have you looked at Andria Barbones site? She uses a lot of modern settings and old cuts… might be a great site for some ideas!
