Question about finger sizing -does 1/4 larger ...

In the summertime tried on a setting and it was a 6.5 and you could see my finger looked fattish :? on top part of the finger as if the ring size was TOO small. I am usally a 6.5 in thin bands. 7 would fall off me in the winter (regular shanks) . I have a 7 i tried on now and it fits but comes off without much effort.

My question is: :read:
If i make the ring in a 6.75, will the extra 1/4 make it so it fits, but does not have finger bulge showing??
or do i have to go up a 1/2 size?

Thank you!! :wavey:

That is hard to say but it sounds like it might be a good compromise. But I do feel for myself that I never want to see any finger bulge even in the hottest weather, so that means my rings will be a little loose in the winter. I think that looks much better than too tight.

Thanks or I can tell them to make it between 6.75 and 7 ?? Like not a 7, but a tad bigger than 6.75..??

I do quarter size. Depending on the width of the band, and which hand I'm going to wear it. Currently my ering is 7.5 on a very thin band (I know, fat fingers). In winter it fits perfectly. In summer I have to screw it on and off my finger, which causes the sausages to swell even more. 7.75 would be perfect!

On my right ring finger I wear an 8.25.

I upsize by 1/4 for summer time and if I chose to wear it on my right hand.

6.75 sounds right. Yes, 1/4 size does make a difference!

yes- a quarter size can make a difference.

Is the band on the ring a rounded type shank (like comfort fit taken to the extreme)? My e-ring has a rounded shank was sent to me as a just under a size 6 (about 5 7/8) and it was too big and falling off, they brought it down to just under 5 3/4 and its just right now. I don't seem to have the same issues with rings I have that are close to a 6 but have a straight type fit (where they have an "edge" to catch on my finger) instead of a rounded band.

It's more like flattish, not really rounded inside......

you can ask for a "tight" 6.75.

Ok thanks.. What is a tight 6.75? It will be 100% 6.75?? I am getting a matching band too so I better order them both at the same time.

Thank you for this thread!
I am having a little bit of the opposite problem with my new e-ring. I have very small fingers but larger knuckles. My e-ring is size 4.25 and the wedding band is 4.5. Oddly, the e-ring is still looser than the wedding band. (It is also top-heavy and has a slightly skinnier shank.) I would really like to wear the e-ring alone occasionally, but it really tips and spins quite badly when it's by itself, to the point where it irritates me. When I wear the band with it, it's not so bad because it pushes it closer to my knuckle. But it still tips.

I JUST got my ring and I am loathe to send it back to the jeweler. But, I'm wondering if I should have it downsized another 1/4 size?? I would have to work a little harder to get it over my knuckle, but I think I still could. And would 1/4 make enough difference??
Or, should I just get those "sizer beads" put inside the shank?? That seems kind of cheesy after all the custom work I've had done.

Does anyone have any experience with skinny fingers and larger knuckles??

Thanks!!

PS... I agree with DiamondSeeker that rings "look" better slightly loose rather than slightly tight.

A tight 6.75 would probably be between a 6.5 to 6.75. A loose would be between 6.75 to 7. I know one jeweler who worked in 1/8 sizes and called those tight and loose. My ring is actually a 7 and 1/8 according to him.

You might try an eighth. Some people would say it doesn't make a difference, but I think it does, especially with the skinny shanks. I think a tiny bit loose is better than too tight, but I measure too tight by how it sits on your finger rather than how it goes over your knuckle. Hubs has a fun ring he wanted to wear on either hand and I suggested he have it sized as an "1/8" size since he has 1/4 size difference between hands so he could switch sides if he wanted to, and it worked. He had it sized the eighth measurement between. (He also has a bit of a knuckle problem.)

I am going to order my ring today or one day this week - so I like need to know - I will go to another jeweler here and get one more opinion.

I tried the ring on in the summer and it fit great, but again, bulge and dont' want that in any season, so I guess 6.75, but the tight 6.75 sounds good. I have a size 7 ring and they are too big. So u think 6.75??

I also have used sizing gel and that stays on my larger band and works great.http://www.simplywhispersstore.com/96150.html

Well I ordered it in a 6.75 today! (both pieces).......

Get sizing beads put in on the bigger size.
