Hello All,
I have become a Pricscope ADDICT! It''s pretty bad...I think about Diamonds all the time! I read the posts every day and have become obsessed with finding just the right setting for a .50ct radiant that I currently own.
Since I live in NY, I stopped into a few random dealers on 47th Street today. I met one that was not a hard sell at all...just a guy who really seemed to know what he was talking about.
I told him I was looking for a micro-pave shank and halo to go around my stone. I explained I wanted the shank to be VERY thin (about 1 to 1.5mm).
He told me that a ring so delicate and small is very difficult to make and nearly impossible to make WELL. He said it''s difficut to make the ring as stable as it should be and that the thin shank would cause problems over the years including becoming mis-shaped and pave falling out. He did add that he''d be happy to do it, but he wanted me to know what I was getting myself into. Furthermore, he said the piece would NOT be made from a wax, but the whole thing would be designed on the computer and then milled in plastic using CAD/CAM equipment. Instead of a wax, I''d have a rigid plastic model to look at before it was cast in platinum or gold.
Does any of this sound reasonable? He showed me a plastic model and to my untrained eye, it looked amazingly perfect and beautiful. Is it true I should opt for a slightly thicker shank?
Needless to say, I''m more confused about the process now than when I walked into the store!
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
