After a year of skrimping and saving, I finally had enough to pull the trigger and purchase an engagement ring. After several trips to the jeweler and putting him through my exhausting barrage of Pricescope questions, we finally agreed on a stone and a price. I''ll follow up with details of the journey, but for now - here are some pics of the winner!

And an ASET I snapped with my point and shoot...

See if you can spot the feather and take a guess at the dimensions :) Hint - ring size is a 5.5

Well, my guess is that it would be a 1 ct range because the tag on the setting says "1ct"?

Congrats!

ETA: Oh yeah, the feather, it's between 9:00 & 10:00, yes?

Yes and no...

but yes that little tag definitely detracts from the challenge of the question... :D

Chalk it up to my excitement...

1.14 to be exact, dropped clarity to go with a bigger stone, and kept the color range for this stone...

Ahh, but he said "dimensions".

I''m not guessing though.

9-10 yup...winner winner :)

The next 10 days are going to be the most nerve wracking...The stone is on its way to the appraisers for a full work up and some glamour shots (since my photos do it no justice), then back to the dealer for mounting. Next week, a clandestine trip to meet with her parents and ask for their blessing. Then it''s off to a tropical location (details after the trip) where I have my choice of waterfalls, volcanoes, or sunsets on west coast beaches to propose.

Still scanning through the posts and still looking for a reasonably secure way to transport the ring through customs without raising any eyebrows, but I may have found the solution.

Cheers :)

GIA VG - curious considering the cut, but understandable considering the photo...

So what do I win??? It looks like a very lively stone with good fire, based on the photo.

VG for painting and gia don''t like shallower combos, mostly agree on the painting, disagree on the shallow point up too point.
Who is the grading report from?

Apologies, I mispoke, it is a GIA lab report, but the cut grade can only be estimated... When I said GIA VG, I meant to quote you...

Will be an interesting comparison to see how the appraiser shots look :)

Another opportunity to share your expansive knowledge and eagle eye...when the rest of the photos come back :)

I think Stormy wins the prize.

That was a spectacular guess. That is why we refer to you as a pro!!

Remind me never to post a picture of myself and ask to guess my age or weight...

Snapped off a few more shots before she goes to the appraiser for a full work up. My jeweler was so entertained with the photos I took, he took down the model of my camera. (I jokingly told him I'd sell it to him for the diamond. :D)

Unfortunately I couldn't get the focus to work for this one. But here it is anyhow.

Congratulations, I think you picked out a great stone and a very lovely setting! I love a simple and elegant solitaire like the one you picked out! Please come back with some pictures of the complete ring when it''s set.

Looks like a gorgeous diamond!

Just got back from Costa Rica...

I've never experienced a more perfect set of events then this vacation and the ensuing proposal, so I wanted to share this experience with all of you :)

Cheers :)

One correction strm.

Solasferas are not painted. They are the only rounds I am aware of that acheive the edge to edge without painting. There are actually 3 upper girdles on a Solasfera instead of 2 on a traditional round. ASET on painted stones shows extensive greens resulting from the painting which can be seen in a practical observation. You will not see that on a Solasfera.

Peace,
