I need a new cell phone and have been thinking about considering (I have always been a bit uncomfortable with some of what they do...) an iPhone. Some of those features are sort of neat but that tracking thing is just creepy.

Androids have a tracker too and let me tell ya, if you lose your cell phone it's wonderful.

When I got my iPhone 6, i noticed my location icon was always "on". This never happened before on my previous iPhones. I had to go under location settings and turn off so many things that just wanted to "gather info" and i guess the iPhone wants to be a pedometer too! (not very accurate in my purse I'm sure!) That location setting seemed to be the one searching all the time.

I don't like the frequent trips either. I turned that off. I do love the "find my iPhone" setting. I have used it multiple times when misplacing my iPhone in my house...LOL. You can log online and it will locate your phone on a map, remotely wipe it (if you have to), and make it play a loud annoying noise.
