charbs - we just used the bouncy seat. but make sure to not leave her in it more than 20 minutes. sitting up positions are not good for newborns. Skye spent a lot of the time on the floor, on her activity mat.

dcgator - welcome to you and Sophia! so great to see you here. I love that her sleeves are too long for her itty bitty arms.

Kunzite - wow, Mama, you are quite the chef! don't get me started on all the wash up after cooking. my nails have gone to hell from all the pan-washing, bowl-washing, bottle-washing, washing hands to change Skye then washing again after... O is so cute with his puff. Skye decided the other day that she finds rice crackers utterly disgusting. I imagine they taste like cardboard.

icekid - I think you're spot on at 20oz per day now. I think you have to move down to 2 bottles by the time they turn 1, so no rush. Jumper already has the face of an older boy. so defined, it's fantastic. and he's got teeth!

- - -

AFM, just wanted to share that my body has gone into chemically-induced menopause, and I have been experiencing hot flashes! I've always felt cold more than anything else, so this is quite a new experience.

going to pick up Skye at my mom's. apparently, she threw up twice yesterday, but managed to have dinner and bottle before turning in for the night.

Skippy - Your boys are adorable!! So sweet to see them together! Evan's eyes are gorgeous!!

SS - Wow, purees at 2 mos! I thought most babies couldn't even swallow purees that early. How is your sister? Are you an aunt now? Sorry if you updated already. I need to read back a bunch.

HH - I thought everyone was going to say it's too early for little bites of food!!! So, will A eat stuff w/sauce if fed by spoon? Re: not liking beef, too early to try tofu, right? Sounds like you have fun weekend planned. Enjoy!

Noel - Sorry to hear that Skye has been sick. I'd be interested to hear what the theory is re: watering down the yogurt. Enjoy your break this weekend!

LV, yes he will take most saucy/soupy things off of a spoon but prefers to take them by straw (as with puree pouches). But textures like mashed potatoes are a no go. We also tried tofu and he wasn't a fan. He's so his mother's son! He will eat chicken if it's braised and tender like in chicken korma (one of his favorites) or in chicken salad, and he also likes tuna salad. But he wont do beef, pork or other fish. So right now we're looking to other sources of protein like greek yogurt, edemame, cheese, etc... I don't think it's too early to introduce tofu though. It's pretty easy to digest and is a great source of protein (as you know).

Noel, I'm sorry to hear that you're having hormonal issues. I hope your docs are able to help out with your symptoms.

DCG, I LOVE the name and she's gorgeous. Congrats mama.

Charbie-we used the swing (FP papasan) for all of 8 weeks. Aidan preferred his bouncy seat and slept in it for ages because if his reflux, I ended up getting a second so I could have one upstairs and one downstairs.

Smurfy-Cayden is so cute, I can't believe how big he's getting!

AFM, we survived our trip to DC! Wow, what a difference a year makes. I felt like out hotel was so far away from everything last trip (when I was pregnant and fat and didn't want to walk anywhere) but this time I felt like it was in the perfect location and walking distance from everything. Aidan did well on the flight there, we had to get up super early to make our flight, but he fell back asleep on the plane and we survived the cab ride from the airport to the hotel with no car seat. I was a nervous wreck but after waking up at 3 am I really didn't want to have to navigate the metro and then walk from Union Station to the hotel with the baby and all of our bags. Early check in was key. We were all able to nap and relax on saturday before the party. We even took A swimming in the hotel pool. He loved it! Yesterday we went to the National History museum and the Building museum and had a blast at both. The building museum was PERFECT for us because it was air conditioned and there was a ton of room for Aidan to crawl around and hang out with other kids. So it was a quick trip but fun and it was great to see our friends Vcum10 and Princesss.

Busy at work but wanted to pop in. You all have the cutest kiddos. It's so fun to watch them all grow and to hear how different they all are!

Anyway, I have some news. I'm pregnant. Well, at least that's what the stick (okay 5 sticks!) I peed on said! :naughty: In all seriousness, DH and I are kind of freaking out. This wasn't planned and we were so careful! DS is still so high maintenance (thanks to having several adults at his beck and call for the first 12 months of his life!). I'm still nursing and the thought of being pregnant and/or nursing for three years doesn't sound appealling to me and I'm worried about the toll it'll take on me physically. In all honesty, I want my body back. I suppose it's normal but I've been thinking lots of selfish thoughts since finding out. I have my first prenatal appointment today. I'm so nervous. I swear it feels like I gave birth YESTERDAY.

I'll keep you all posted but thanks for letting me put that out into the universe. We haven't told anyone IRL yet.

Pupp, wow! Congratulations, and TOTALLY normal to have those thoughts. Your DS is still quite young and you're feeling freaked out about running after a 20 month old AND caring for a newborn. Totally hear ya. But thinking about you for your appointment. Hope everything goes well.

Oh wow, Pupp, congrats, but I totally understand your fears! Hope that you have a good appt and even though it feels like yesterday that N was born, you'll have 9 months to get him ready to be a big bro so hopefully that will help.

CHARBIE, can't wait to see you in this thread soon!! :wink2: I use the http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Little-Snugabunny-Cradle-Swing/dp/B0042D69WY snugabunny swing but I would ONLY buy it if you know you are going to use it. It helps get my colicky son to sleep.

PUPP, congrats!!!! That is great they will be close in age and go to school together and can watch out for each other! :appl:

HH, awww, he is a doll!!! Your trip looked great!

NOEL, I am sorry; I hope your body goes back to normal soon. hugs

LAINE, yay for a successful trip!!! Glad to see you back!!! thanks about my boys! :halo:

AFM
Nothing too exciting here! Tomorrow we go to the Pulmonolgist to read the output of Evan's low heart rates; I am hoping the computer was off and he really didn't have too many low heart rate alarms. Also the feeding specialist is coming by today to help me get him feeding better.

Oh and both boys slept for a long time today so I took a quick nap! Hope everyone has a great week!

Congratulations, Pupp!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:
The thoughts you're having are perfectly normal. It IS a big deal to be preggo/nursing for 3 straight years. Wanting your body isn't really selfish. It's YOUR body! You have every right to want it to yourself. You are a great mom and this baby is lucky to have you! Having 2 kids close in age is going to be so much fun! It'll be a little hectic at first for sure, but you can do it.

Crazy busy around here. My oldest nephew is having surgery on Thurs for ear tubes, his younger bro (the new baby) is mixed up with days and nights and sis is being very hard on him IMO. JT is a little freaked about school still, Lily is cutting teeth like crazy, DH is working a ton of overtime. Yesterday I noticed an odd spot on Baby T and today he was diagnosed with ringworm. Since they live on a farm he probably got it from someone touching one of the animals and then him. Luckily I realized what it was before it spread and I've been scrubbing hands like crazy and now I'm on the watch for myself and my own kids. So lots of craziness here and no end in sight! lol

OK...more proper post!

pupp -- I've been thinking of you all day today. Hope the appointment went well. At least you will be dealing with diapers less since there will be an overlap. That's what all of my friends who have kids close together say.

HH -- we have that same guayabera shirt! I love it!

charbie -- I read your post fast, so not sure what you were asking, but we used a bouncer seat and a little swing to hold him when there were no humans around. And I would put him laying down in my boppy. You aren't supposed to do that, but when they are so little, they don't move much so I would just keep an eye on him and fold laundry or whatever. Not too much longer for you!

Can't wait to see the new crop of mommies coming soon here!!!

AFM -- Anderson had an explosion in development! He is very close to crawling. He does the army crawl, and will get up on all fours. He gets mad because one of his legs is always stuck under him, and he doesn't know how to move it either forward or back. And he sat up by himself, meaning brought himself to a sitting position from lying down. It's only happened once, so it might be a coincidental leg placement issue, but it was so cute bc he was so excited! And he is jabbering up a storm. About a month ago, I was worried bc he wasn't making consonant sounds. He would do the occasional "guh" sound, but now it's bababamamamagagagadadadayayaya all day long. It's so cute and I'm relieved! He hits 8 months in a few days. Oh, and his little pincer grasp is really good now. He can bring his little puffs to his mouth, and about 9/10 will actually make it inside. He loves his puffs. It's so cool to see how much he has come. It seemed like we had about 2 months of not that much development, but he certainly made up for it. Here are some pics. He met his cousin for the first time ever up in NY. He's 2 weeks younger than A, so that was fun to see them together. A was a dream on every flight we took. One of the stewardesses asked if she could parade up and down the aisle with him and so that was funny.

puppmom - congrats... if that's what you want to hear. not sure from your post what your thoughts are on keeping or terminating the pregnancy. am guessing keeping.

HH - super cute photo. what's he hiding under? sounds like you had a great weekend.

Skippy - whoo hoo for the nap! I think Skye would know when I napped because she would wake up after 30 min, so I stopped trying.

shiny - I had ringworm in college. I think I got it from one of my cats. anyway, super itchy!

Lanie - yippee for all the development in such a short time! S has now forgotten how to say Mama & Nana and is all about Dadadada (sometimes at the top of her lungs) and then whispering very softly: "Tatatata". as you know, S also sat up by herself a week ago... and then didn't do it again for a week... and then did it twice in one hour! it must be a Monday thing. so I'm sure it's not something he'll forget. that is such a compliment that the stewardess wanted to parade A around the plane. love the cousin photo: they have matching arm rolls! and is that Mama in the last photo with A? very pretty.

Lanie, Anderson and Colin look so similar, in size and coloring. If I didn't know any better I would think they might be fraternal twins! Super cute!

LAINE, is that you? You look beautiful, momma. Oh my goodness gracious; I want to cuddle your baby! I love his chubby legs! I agree, he and Colin look like fraternal twins!!! hehe Soooooo CUTE!!!

NOEL, I thought when they were deep in sleep (I noticed a trend, that they take a long afternoon nap) that I could take a nap. Today no nap for momma, dr's office. Hopefully tomorrow, depending on what time the nurse comes to see E.

Lanie, They DO look so much alike! Love the photo with their names on their shirts! A gets cuter and cuter every time we see a pic of him! Glad to hear he was such a good traveler. That so sweet that he got to fly first class on his first trip and that he made such a good impression on the flight attendant!

Skippy, Going back a few posts. We make our own baby food, too, except for the rice cereal. We like Earth's Best too. I am not nearly as productive as Kunzite!! I am pretty much preparing each meal as I go, but if I bake an apple or something like that, then I will put in a little baby tupperware and dole out as needed. I will often mix fruit with her cereal. She LOVES eating. She actually started on solids at 4 mos, per her pedi's rec. We did do one new food a week, until her 6 month visit, the pedi said we no longer need to do that. I am doing mostly organic for her at this point, but 'm sure that won't continue forever. I have to tell you, you are going to love when the boys start eating solids. It is so much FUN. S will lunge for her first few bites of each meal. It is adorable!

Charbie, Hi there! :wavey: I didn't completely understand your post. I wasn't sure if you were saying you didn't know what kind of swing or bouncy chair to get -or- if you were saying there's a particular type of seat you think you want, but they don't make whatever you are envisioning. I will tell you from my experience both the swing and the bouncy seat were NECESSITIES!!! I have this swing: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Starlight-Papasan-Cradle/dp/B000I5UZ1Q, which I got from a CL mama for $50. I had a bouncy seat upstairs, which was an easy place to put her while I was getting other things done in the room with her. I had the swing downstairs, and had another bouncy chair from a friend that we would use on our screened porch once it got warmer. Back to the swing -- she fell asleep in it MANY A TIME, when I am not sure how else she would have fallen asleep. It was our total sleep back-up solution when nothing else would work. Have you read http://www.happiestbaby.com/book-dvd-excerpts/the-happiest-baby-book/? Swinging is one of the 4 S's. GET ONE!!!!!! As far as the dogs go, you may be surprised at their reaction. My super-friendly beagle mix was VERY timid around her. She would come into the room and get really close to the floor in a very sheepish sort of way. it took her a while to come around, but she still is so cautious when approaching the baby. The reverse is not true, however. I have to say S loves all of her furry companions. BIG SMILES whenever she sees them. In the beginning, I was super-cautious too, and would always make sure dogs and baby were separated by a door if I was not in the room. I am a lot less concerned now, but things will change once she gets moving!! Hope that helps and answers your question, sort of!

HH, Glad you had such a successful trip! That's such a cute pic of A! He always looks like such a happy baby. :)) Re: tofu, I thought I had read somewhere that it's best to wait on tofu because of allergies. I don't recall though. I read here and there, but feel like I'm mostly winging it.

Kunzite, Wow and Yum! Everything looks so good! Do you freeze some of it and refrigerate what you'll use in the next few days? I may have asked you that already. I have to go back to that site you shared. Oh, and what are you doing with puffs?? I am anti-puffs. A puffs-snob, I guess you could say! Oh, and I think I will go with regular yogurt. That yobaby stuff is a great marketing! I'd rather use regular yogurt plus fresh fruit. They got me though. Label says 6 mos. plus, so I thought, perfect, portable, natural, fruit, yogurt, 6+, MUST GET!! They may as well put that 6 month label on every yogurt!

DCG, Congratulations again!! She is a beauty! :)) Check in with us when you can!

Icekid, Yay!! So glad to see you here! Jumper is sooooooooooo handsome! His eyes are gorgeous! Love him! RE: waning supply, have you replaced membranes lately? I freaked out a few weeks ago when my supply went down, and then replaced the membranes, and all is right with the world again.

********************

AFU:

Samantha is AMAZING!! She is such a love! I think she tries to kiss me!! When I picked her up at daycare yesterday, she opened her mouth and plopped it on my cheek! I kiss her a million times a day, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what she's trying to do. She is just so sweet. She laughs a lot now, and it warms my heart every time she does! She sits well on her own, moves around a lot on her tummy, especially if there's a nice fluffy kitty in her sight.

Questions:

We tried some rapid flow nipples. She does great with them. Is it ok to transition to them? I wonder that she will eat so quickly that she will not realize she is full. Is this a valid concern???

What about sippy cups? When did your baby start using one? Are they intended to replace bottles at some point? Or, is it just meant for water at meal times?

Photos to follow . . .

LV, I've never heard that about tofu, but it's interesting. I wonder what it is about that form of soy that's allergenic? I mean, they make and sell soy formula and to my knowledge it's not a common allergy. Obviously, only do what you're comfortable doing.

My child said sh*t tonight...thank you DH...

Of course my response when DH told me "oh f*ck!" Hmm....guess it's time we start watching out language....

LV -- fast flow nipples...I graduated to the medium at about 4 months and then I just started the fastest ones. He is getting the hang of it, but still chokes a bit. We never had issues with volume of feeding. I never really thought about that until you said it. And we introduced his sippy cup when he started solids. He doesn't drink out of it that much. He can do it, but he prefers to play with it and bang it around. I guess we'll gradually use that as we eliminate his bottles at about a year. Glad to see you posting on this thread again. I saw you on others but wondered how little S was doing!

HH -- that's so funny! Hopefully you can kick the habit before he learns more!

Thanks everyone about the pics. Yes, he and his cuz look a lot alike! People mostly say he looks like my DH but every once in awhile I'll get someone who says he looks like me, and I think they are trying to be nice!

Sorry my post was confusing...I was trying to figure out what was best option....swing, seat, etc. I actually found a swing that transforms to a bouncy seat so you can use it as either or. Little pricey, but I still have a 20% coupon and some giftcards to BRU, so maybe ill just bite the bullet. It looks really comfy...I want one! Haha! Thanks, ladies. See you over here in a few weeks!

HH, On the topic of tofu, I have no idea where I might have read that you are supposed to wait. I thought maybe it was Baby Super Foods, but she actually suggests introducing it at 7 months. So no idea where I picked that up. I think it's just one of those million different ideas depending on who you talk to things when it comes to babies. According to her pedi, I can give her anything (except honey) at this point. So, who knows? But, yes, you are right, it ultimately comes down to what we are comfortable with. I'm sure she'll be trying tofu soon.

Lanie, Thanks for replying about the sippy cups. We just started trying it a week or so ago. She seems to mostly have the hang of it, but yes, she too bangs it around a lot. I wondered if at some point it's ok to just put milk or formula right in the sippy. Trying to make our lives more efficient, haha. I guess it doesn't work that way. I think we will convert over to fast flow nipples at this point. She seems to do really well with them, which surprised me. It was my DH's idea to try them. I thought she'd be choking for sure, but surprisingly not!

Charbie, On the combo bouncy/swing, the only thing is -- that you might want options. There might be times when you want to put her in the bouncy, but it's set up as a swing, and then you have to put her down to switch it up. Or, you might be upstairs and really wanting a bouncy seat, but then you have to run downstairs to get he swing/bouncy. You'll see what works best for you once she arrives, but those are just some of my thoughts from my experience. Not that you asked, but you know, we like to share, right?

********

Question of the Day: Would you bring your baby to a wedding? Little S was invited to a wedding with us. It starts at 5. I would LOVE to bring her. I'm sure she'd be fine for the first 2 hours or so. So, I guess we just leave once she gets cranky/needs to sleep. There are 30 kids invited to the wedding, so I think it's perfectly ok for her to go, i.e., I don't think they were just being nice by including her on the invitation.

HH, you just went to a wedding with A, right? How'd he do?

Well we went to a wedding reception that followed a few weeks behind the wedding. Aidan did fine. He's not one to sleep when stuff is going on so he stayed up, but he didn't get super cranky or anything. I think you should bring her. If children are invited then the B&G have probably come to terms with the fact that there might be a fussy kid or two at some point. If she starts to fuss during a more quiet moment (like the ceremony), just get up quietly and take her into another room or outside.

we spent today in the emergency room. DH decided to return to work after being sick for a while and coughing for about a week. once he got to work he got a fever, started shaking and couldn't stop coughing. his boss took him to the emergency room and told me the wrong hospital, so there I was looking for my husband (after having unpacked buggy, baby and bags) and the receptionist telling me they have no record of such a patient... anyway, back to the car to load buggy, baby and bags, and finally went to the right hospital, reunloaded and found DH. Skye spent most of the time crawling around the little room he was in. we were there for like 5 hours before they sent him home with antibiotics because they couldn't find much else wrong with him. by then he was feeling much better, thankfully. it's crazy to think that if we didn't have a kid, I probably would have been in such a state and just rushed out the door. after he called me (and told me not to rush because it would take a while before anyone would see him), I was very calm, gave Skye her fruit, ate some cheerios, got us both dressed, brushed my teeth and packed everything I needed for the day: her bread, formula, thermos hot water, bottle, sippy cup, diapers, toys etc. and also some clothes and DH's medication in case he had to be admitted for the night. so amidst all the chaos, having children helps you think straight!

HH - haha, love your response to your child swearing. I think our girl is going to have a potty mouth, too.

LV - glad to hear Samantha is so wonderful. that is really special that she gives you kisses! sippy cups are for 6 months +. no, they're not intended to drink milk out of. just for water. can't wait to see your photos.

here's my hard work in the kitchen today which I called Ode-to-Kunzite. I obviously am no where as neat as Kunzite when it comes to preparing baby food. anyway, one is for tomorrow, and the other went in the freezer.

Gorgeous bebes!!

Skippy~ Good luck with the pulmonologist!
Noel~ Hope your DH is feeling better soon!

Lily has a sinus infection. I was supposed to watch Baby T tomorrow but had to cancel. I feel terrible for cancelling last minute like this but I know I'd feel worse if he ended up getting sick too. It's our anniversary on Sunday, 12 yrs. Hopefully we'll at least get to dinner or something, but that all depends on how Lily is feeling then.

Hi All!

This is my first post in this thread...Hayden was born on 8/3 so he is a little over 2 weeks old now.

A quick question before he wakes up -

I am breastfeeding but my left breast is still killing me while he's nursing. There's a pretty big crack across the top of my nipple that started really early on but hasn't healed. The lactation consultant I saw said that his latch was good, but this crack is just not healing. It's bad enough to make me swear when he latches on that side...The right breast doesn't hurt and has a pretty good supply I think.

So I tried pumping today...That hurts significantly less than him nursing. I got only got about 1.5 oz though. I don't know if I'm ready to give him a bottle yet though. DH and my mom are pressuring me to give him a bottle but so far I've been resisting. But now that I've pumped I feel like I'm going to have to or else he will go hungry? Or should I just try to feed him all on the right and continue pumping on the left?

What age did you first give your baby a bottle if they were breastfed?
