Promise ring challenge - help anyone?

I’ve been asked to find a temporary engagement ring for a proposal in 3 weeks! My fault for thinking I could deliver. It’s for my future daughter in law and we’re so thrilled she is to join our family.

I thought something nice and sweet that can be used as a travel ring. Shape doesn’t matter but cost should be no more than $1k. Is this too unrealistic?
Even though it’s temporary I can’t see using a cz. My son prefers a diamond look over a colored gem.

Anyone willing to help me? I started looking for moissanite thinking it’s lower cost but never seeing it in person I’m afraid to take a chance.

Wish list would be 1.5 - 2 ct round, radiant, or emerald cut, size 6.

Perhaps some places to shop would be helpful. I started looking for loose stones and I think it’s easier to find a loose stone than the actual mounting. They alone seem to be $1k.

I know it’s a lot to ask but hoping my post will get some suggestions to put me in the right direction.

Hello, MrsT!
I found a great looking LGD one and a half carats that's under $500 that might make the deadline, but you'll need to check with multiple sellers to see what their backlog and current ETA would be for getting the diamond and having it set.

I'm interested! Not sure how to look at it. I'm not real good at understanding the ways to view the stones without anyone picking them up before I make a decision.
Thanks for this. I was getting discouraged.
I read so many of the posts here and recently saw your posts about digging and painting and I swear I couldn't see what you were referring to.

Check pricing and lead times for getting a setting made at LooseGrownDiamond, Adiamor, DreamStone, and Ritani for these:

What about a thin eternity band? That way she can use it as a spacer and she can stack with it?

Will do. I’ll let you know if I have any luck.
I feel silly but I don’t know how to find the options you posted. I think I like the last one with the GIA cert.
Is there a concern that the others are type II and not IIa.

They are likely Type IIa HPHT with no boron impurities.
Search the grading report numbers at LooseGrownDiamond for probably the best pricing, then check with the other sellers about a price match if you'd rather buy from one of them.

I did send him an eternity band of mixed shapes to consider for that reason.
Thank you.

I saw this for 500 buy it now on the bay. Just type in the title. It goes to an authenticator and then ships to you with an arrival approximately March 8th.

Just a thought...I tend to think of a promise ring as something dainty or a small solitaire. My understanding is the promise ring is the promise to get engaged. The engagement ring as the promise/intent to get married. Hubby bought me a small, quarter carat tiffany ring for the promise ring. Then we had time to look for the engagement ring.

I'm new to this process so bear with me.
The pricing for the suggestions above were over the $500 when I looked.
I did find a stone in the $500 price point. The specs seem pretty fine for what this project is. It looks brown to me. Am I seeing this right?
I also see the arrow are off but this doesn't have to be super ideal. It does need to be clear and bright.

Thoughts?

That one would probably best be avoided...lots of CVD graining going on!

This was a difficult thing to pull of on such short notice.
I didn't feel capable selecting a lower cost stone from Loose Grown Diamond.

We tried to find a comfort zone with some lower priced jewelers that sell Moissanite but that felt risky.
I then explored a purchase of an E-ring or band from either C&C or Debebian's though I prefer lab grown for the stone.

In the end the girlfriends mom and sister suggested a ring she's been wanting for a long time. It's a band from Cartier. I'm happy if they're happy.

Thanks Luvmysparklies for searching for the band.

Thank you PSers that read and responded. You're so kind. All the work was worth the lovely Martini I had with DH after another search at the mall at 4:00!

i have been watching this thread with interest
i did think the budget was very generous generous for a promise ring but im in NZ and although they sell them down the mall (usually a small diamond in silver) i dont now of anyone that has ever had one
or for that matter like a place sitter ring -not sure if that is the right word but im
explicitly thinking of the OP's case*

Hi,
The name for this type of ring purchase can be tricky. I think I heard it named a placeholder, stand-in, or pre-engagment. I was calling it a proposal ring. Promise ring didn't seem right in my situation.
I don't know how common this practice of engagement is but I imagine there must be a need.

For us it's because my future daughter in law's mom thought she would rather shop for her ring and my son wants to surprise her so this idea works.

I felt a CZ ring wasn't going to work since she's a kindergarten teacher and I think the ring would take a beating but this would have been most economical.

I also like the idea of the ring having double duty as a travel ring or stacking ring.

If anyone is interested in this type of purchase it should not be done in a rush. lol

Cheers
