I''m just so sad......I had my wedding redone after ~16yrs....my new ring is gorgeous and I love it! BUT....I''m having problems with losing diamonds/loose stones. I''ve lost 2-3 diamonds in 15 months and the diamonds are always having being tightened. It seems like I have to get my ring checked/tightened every 6 months or so. My jeweler replaces the stones for free but I can''t just drop the ring off, wait and then leave; I have to always go back the next day to pick it up (not to mention that his store is totally inconveniently located to me). I LOVE my jeweler and this is no reflection on him....I just don''t think this ring is made for my lifestyle. I want a ring to wear daily....I don''t play tennis with them any longer and try to not wear them when using my hands but I just am getting more and more frustrated.

So, my predicament is what should I do?

Live with having to have it checked/maintained every 4-6 months?

Or get it reset?

Help!

Unfortunately such is life with pave...does this jeweler do a lot of pave work normally? I ask because it is more likely to happen with poorly done pave, but 3 stones in a year and a half doesn't necessarily suggest this. Just curious.

Unfortunately pave isn't for everyone's lifestyle, it does need to be babied a bit. Are the stones falling out of the same place? Or different places each time?

And are they falling out where the two bands rub each other? If so, a spacer ring might solve the problem because you shouldn't wear 3 sided pave against each other.

My understanding is that you should have any ring checked every 6 months or so.

With a pave/micropave ring it is even more important to get the prongs checked at least every 6 months. I have a micropave ring and plan on having it inspected every 4 months or so, or whenever I''m in the general area of my jeweler.

I know pave is not for everyone''s lifestyle. Is this maintenance worth it to you?

The stones have fallen out of the wedding ring and another from the ering....

I wondered if the two rings rubbing together would contribute to the wear.

Is there any way to have a similar ring look-wise but with channel set diamonds?

The look is quite different with channel set IMO. And a big YES YES YES to the rings rubbing together contributing to the wear! The diamonds on one band will wear down the platinum prongs on the band next to it, making it more likely a stone will fall out.

That''s the first thing I''d do if you still love the ring is stop wearing them together or buy a very thin platinum spacing ring to wear in between. Your jeweler should have told you that wearing 2 3-sided pave rings next to each other isn''t a good idea.

I''m sorry to hear that happened to you. I too lost a stone in my Leon pave ring, and it was only after 2 months of having it. So even the "master" himself doesn''t make pave that doesn''t fall out. I guess it''s the nature of the beast with pave, unfortunately. Maybe you could just get a plain band to wear when you are doing any activites that might not be good for the pave. I think it would be hard to go from having all that sparkle in your beutiful rings to no sparkle all the time.

just got back from the jeweler....I had been there right before thanksgiving and had the ring checked. Went in today with a friend as she''s getting her ring redone also. They checked my WR/ER and there were more than 10 stones loose! That was it! I decided to just reset the ring. I''m going to go with a Harry Winston-ish setting with a simple band with baguettes. Very sad still because my ring is so pretty! I know the new one will be as well

I am so sorry to hear about your ring. I recently returned my pave ring. I had one stone fall out and replaced and the jewler told me "you will lose more stones". I did not like babying it so much.I found myself constantly looking for loss stones. It is nice to have a ring that you can just wear without worrying about.

Your new ring sounds like it will be stunning. I can''t wait to see pictures.

To me that says that the ring wasn't well made to begin with. 10 stones in a few weeks? That's insane.

I think you''ve made a wise decision. A pave set just isn''t the greatest for wear 24/7.

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your STUNNING set! I hope you can get it sorted out in a way that makes you happy!! Perhaps channel set stones would work better for you?

Hi Flash,

First off, your ring is gorgeous. I have a Ritani micropave ring and I have never had any problems (yet). I wear it everyday. Would you consider a Ritani setting? Also, what type of metal is your ring? I hear platinum is best for micropave.

so sorry to hear of the troubles with your stunning set! it sounds as though you have a great plan for a gorgeous reset. can''t wait to see pics!

Y''all are so nice to help me with this. I can''t have any more HIGH MAINTANCE things in my life (my 11 year old has that title!)

I"m going with a simpler design but keeping my pave WB as those are the diamonds from my original set.

I should have it before Christmas. Keep your fingers crossed!

I think you''ll love your new choice. And i can attest to the durability. I have a similar style in platinum, and I have had the ring a WHILE now.

Let me tell you, I am kind of a brute with my hands. I have never been able to grow nice long nails because of it, and this ring hasn''t been babied (I''m ashamed to admit).

I''ll post a couple of recent pics. The ring was/is not remotely new in these shots, and is still holding up well. No loose stones, no bent prongs, the shank is in great shape. I have learned to take it off when I''m home (which is when I''m at my most brutish, I guess, playing with animals and messing around in the house).

I also think that, coming from a pave setting, you''ll be satisfied with the amount of sparkle. The baguettes provide for bold beams of light, in addition to the scintillation of your center stone. I think you''ll enjoy the look a lot.

Anyway, here are the shots of the ring in different lighting.

And another, in a different lighting scenario. I think you'll like your new setting.

Your reset will be beautiful! It''s too bad that the other one didn''t hold up very well.

I LOVE THE NEW STYLE!!!!!

Mediterranean your ring is lovely.

Honestly this ring is totally beautiful. I hope you get it by Christmas. So exciting.

I am heavy on my rings and am having my pink and diamond eternity reset. I kept bending it out of shape. It was suggested I got a bead setting but went with a completely different style (like a Starlight band). I am so pleased given your experience. Do they think us Mums sit around drinking tea all day, we are busy with hectic lives. We need to be told when settings are delicate and not for 24/7.

Thanks again for the validation.....my DH, while wonderful about this upgrade issue, would like me to get a ring and live with it! Me too! I just cant babysit anymore things in my life!

Mediterranean...your ring is gorgeous and if mine is a fraction as lovely, then I''d be pleased. I''ll keep ya''ll posted!

I hear your pave frustration... I had my center stone''s prongs tightened twice in 3 months so I can imagine how all the pave tightening would get way too annoying!

Can''t wait to see the reset, it''ll be gorgeous. I love the baguette sidestone settings!!

just got an email that it''s almost ready....hopefully next week I''ll get the new setting! Keep your fingers crossed!

I just picked up my new ring....I love it and think it''s a great alternative to the other setting (my daughters think it''s even better!)
