Princess vs. Cushion

Hi Everyone! I am a newbie here but have been searching through all the posts and seems like I am in the right place!

We are looking to upgrade my engagement ring for our anniversary. Right now I have a .62 princess cut (E, VS2). The jeweler we are working with where my husband purchased my e-ring showed us 2 diamonds today. One was a 1.05 carat princess (F, VS2) and the other was a 1 carat cushion cut (don''t recall the specs but similar).

The cushion cut was a bit less expensive. It was hard for me to tell with the cushion because it wasn''t in a setting, we just used one of those cheapie "rings" you can set the loose diamond in to show it against my wedding band. I don''t know anyone with a cushion either.

My wedding band by the way is 9 princess diamonds for a total of 1 carat from Facets (seen here if this helps: http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=1193)

Anyway - what I am getting at is does anyone have any cushions I can see in a setting? What are your thoughts about a cushion solitare with a princess band? Right now I am leaning towards the princess cut because that''s what I currently have but want to be sure I get the diamond I really want so am doing a little research before my final decision. Any other advice is appreciated as well!

Hi luckygirl,

You have come to the right place to see cushions. Anything specifically you want to see? A modified? A cushion brilliant? An antique cushion?

Your best best bet is to run a search for cushion in the box on the right. There are tons to be found.

PS: To answer your other question, as you can see I am biased because I LOVE my new cushion. But if you aren't planning on changing the setting, I think I actually prefer a princess with your WB. Radiants are another one to try...I think of them as something 1/2 way between princesses and cushions.

I''m a cushion owner and lover but honestly with a princess diamond band I''d get a princess stone

Sara - I think you''re right. I am going to stick with the princess cut for my e-ring.

So I spoke to our jeweler - they are ordering the new head (I am keeping my setting) and Iam dropping my ring off on Friday and should have it back by Monday or Tuesday at the latest! I am so excited.

Even though I have picked out my diamond I think I am going to have to stick around this site because the rings are so beautiful here!

Hi Luckygirl..

Neatfreak posted my ring (thanks neatfreak). I was initially into princesses, but realized I didn''t like the completely square shape and harsh corners - and the clunkier prongs usually found to protect them. I found my cushion (the one in the wider setting - which was meant for a princess) and I love it. It has a bigger spread than a princess...at 1.03 carat it is 6.1-5.9 and seemed to be cheaper than a comparble quality princess. I think my ring would have looked fine with a princess band, if I had decided to go that route.

I like cehra love my cushion. But with princess band I''d stay with princess solitaire.
