Hello All,

Need a bit of help.

I have a white-gold setting that is meant to hold a Princess cut stone; which is also what I would like to put in it.

However; the basket is meant for a 1ct or larger stone and thats fine; but its also meant for an "out of square" or more rectangle-shaped stone...

What I need help with is how out "out of square" do I need the stone to be? I've posted pics below with drawings attempting to show the dimensions of it.

Whats an approximation of the smallest stone I could safely use in this setting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dimensions: A: 5.16mm; B: 5.70mm; C: 8.05mm

Measurements are the best approximation I can do with a caliper going between the "seat points" of the prongs.

EDIT: Sorry; tried to attach file...apparently I'm too dumb to get it to work right now

Hi mb,

My first thought is, do you want an out of square Princess? They really are meant to be square...And I think you may be setting yourself up for quite the search to find one that''s not only not square, but the right dimensions for this. I could be wrong though.

Yeah; thats what worries me. This setting isn''t square; but I think a bigger carat/dimension stone will cure the issue.

I just don''t know how much leeway there is on closing the prongs down.

Thanks!

You really need to have a jeweler look at it, they should be able to tell you.

Ran it by a couple of local jewelers...

Other than using a rectangle stone; the prongs would have to be thinned down; thus dropping the stone and losing light around it.

Probably going to search for another setting now.

I know it''s disappointing to find out you cant have the setting you orginally wanted...

But wouldn''t you rather have a setting that properly shows off the stone for what is most beautiful about the stone??

And I know the search can be daunting and exhusting, but you''d be looking equally as hard to find a retangle princess...

ETA: Would the setting you love be appropriate for a radiant??
