Hi all,
A good friend of mine is asking for help in purchasing a princess cut diamond for his soon to be fiance. While I am very well versed in the world of round brilliants I need a little help with some princess info.

1-are there some ball park numbers to stick to? (table %, depth etc)? I know an aset image is best and I do have an aset scope, but I am wondering what are the ball park 'normal' figures are on princess cuts?

Any other advice would be appreciated. I know the basics like on a square cut diamond body color will be more visible in the corners of the diamond. But any specifics nuances of princess cuts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not an expert so I can only offer a bit more advice. It's very difficult to buy a fancy shape based on numbers alone, but the AGA does offer a guideline. https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-grading-chart-princess The only lab currently grading princess for cut is AGS, so if I were purchasing one based on limited experience, I would seek one graded ideal by AGS. They also tend to face up smaller for their ct weight, so a 1ct Princess will look smaller than a 1ct RB, some people are surprised by this, maybe not you or your friend, but I thought I'd mention it, so keep the dimensions of the stone in mind rather than the ct weight, because each one can vary significantly. Also the appearance of one from another varies as well, depending on how many chevrons the stone has..2..3..4, each looks different from the other and most have a preference, so if you are shopping online (as with any cut) I would only consider vendors that can offer you images of the actual stone and ASET to determine it's LP.

That's all I got, sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm sure that others will be around to offer their advice. :)) Your a great friend to help out in this very important decision.
