I was planning on putting the diamond in this setting...

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/channelset-rings/ring/item_58-285.asp

Any help you guys could provide would be excellent. I have requested a ASET image on the first diamond and will probably request one for the second diamond. Once I get that image, I will post it in the thread. Thanks a bunch!

Not much we can tell you beyond that there are no red flags from the info we have - and that they'll definitely be eyeclean no matter how nitpicky you are ;)) I'd expect both to be bright stones.

Post again after you've received the ASETs and gemologist reviews. They'll have the stones in-hand and will be able to tell you about them and compare them.

The 1.2 is quite a bit out-of-square - do you have an opinion on that?

Without the asets cant tell you much...but there is something about the second stone that I'm not liking as much as the
first stone. Also, on the setting it would be nice if you could find a setting that has a more integrated head. I'll
look around to see what I can find.

Edit ...I like this setting better. The head is a little more integrated and not just your regular peg head.

Thank you for the quick replies. I am still very newbish when it comes to diamonds. I did notice after I posted the information about the second diamond that the dimensions were off. I was mainly leaning towards the first one, but I still want to see the ASET image before I make a decision.

Sorry for the newbish question tyty333, but do you mean having a sturdier head for the diamond?

Edit....I would like to keep the setting under 2500 and Platinum

I was also pondering that setting as well. I just went with the other setting because of the thicker band. What I really need to do is go to a store and see the various band width's in person. I know its all personal preference, but is there a prefered width to have?

The second one does not impress me. The first one might be ok.

Might be nice. Replace the second diamond with one of these two in your consideration.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS1-Good-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1356546.asp
Very nice.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1373716.asp
Might be nice, very spready, looks as big as some of those 1.2 cts.

I see your checking out jamesallen but I couldn't help but link the princess ring that jbeg is selling right now. the setting could easily be changed (you could use the other side stones to create a channel set ring from scratch or earrings or a pendant or just put the stone in a solitaire and use the side stones to make a matching WB) and it's under 5k for the whole thing.

First off, thank you for the replies.

I actually had a question when it came to diamond fluorescence. I saw a couple that had medium blue, but I don't if I should shy away from those. From what I have read, I can see its affected under ultraviolet light and not regular light correct? Should I only stick with a fluorescence of none or faint, or can I include a medium blue?

Aside from the 1.08 I listed...what do you guys think about this one?
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS2-Premium-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1390371.asp

As you can tell, I am looking for a princess cut diamond with a color of G or better, Very Good cut or better and VS1 or better on clarity and preferably over 1.05 carat's. I would like to keep the diamond budget under 7500. Thank you again everyone…you rock! (pun intended) :P

So open up the two links, the 1.07 G VVS2 you just posted, and the 1.02 G VS1 that I linked. Put them into two different tabs in one browser window.

Then toggle/click between the two of them. What differences do you see?

The biggest differnce between the two that I can see, is the 1.02 appears to be bigger in actual size and cheaper.

I keep going back to the 1.08 that I posted at the begining. I am hoping they get back with the ASET image soon. Did you not like that one Julie?

From what I can see, the 1.07 and the 1.08 just seem a lot grayer to me. The 1.02 is very white, which might mean more light return.

You might ask your James Allen sales person which one looks the best under ASET. I wonder if the 3 ASET limit applies only to pictures, that they will send you 3 ASET images, but maybe they could do a quick visual under ASET of a couple more?

Thanks Julie! I noticed some of the diamonds were a lot whiter than others. I was thinking those would allow more light too. Like I said, I am still very new to this diamond thing. hahaha

What are your thoughts and feelings about fluorescence?

I think you shouldn't skip those with medium fluorescence. If you are considering a strong or very strong fluoro diamond online, you should see what one looks like in person first.

James Allen just emailed me the ASET images from the 1.08 Princess Cut Diamond in my original post. I definitely need your guy's input. What do you think of them?

Also, this was attached in the email from James Allen...

With all of that said, you'll find the requested ASET images attached to this email. I'm happy to say that our gemologist has determined that diamond 1446357 has very good light performance overall! This diamond is bright and offers a beautiful sparkle! As you would expect, it's completely eye clean and its G color performance faces white. This is a gorgeous princess cut diamond that will look stunning in any setting. This diamond comes highly recommended by our gemologist and I have no doubts that you'll love the diamond when you see it for yourself.

What does everyone think?

As an amateur myself, I'm not really that impressed by the ASET for diamond 1.

The ring I linked you to above is GIA certified of E color and SI1 in clarity and 1.07 carats. It is set in an 18k WG designer setting and is 5400.00

She is a PSer and has listed in both on DB and on the preloved and it's a size 8 and can be sized.

I'm not sure what price you're paying for the JA stone but this is a good deal and it's a beautiful ring-the setting alone is at least 2k right now. At least check it out.

I'm not familiar with princess cut ASET images but I'm sure someone who knows their stuff on princess cuts can tell you about it.

Your SO will be happy with whatever you get her I'm sure :)
::)

Also here are 2 good articles by GOG about princess cuts that you should check out

Also if you want to compare an "ideal" cut princess cut ASET image to the one you have here is one from GOG with an ASET image and it looks pretty different from the one you just posted.

Another just to compare ASET images to the one you got

Wow, GOG has gotten in some nice princess cuts since I was looking.

So I went though your post more carefully and see that you posted the diamond prices. With that type of a budget I would be contacting GOG to check out what stones they have since this one is MUCH larger and is cheaper than the ones you were looking at with a better ASET image as well.

Here are 2 diamond videos done by Jonathan at GOG about princess cut diamonds. You REALLY need to watch the first one before buying one.

I emailed GOG to inquire about the specs and price I was looking to spend. When they get back to me, I will update the thread. The only thing about GOG is I am not impressed with their settings.

May I ask why you aren't "impressed" with their settings? They carry just about every designer setting under the sun and also work exclusively with mark morrell who's very expensive. They also have an amazing bench and makes custom settings and have many great stock settings.

Here are a few testimonials from GOG (and I bought 2 stones from GOG and have had nothing but stellar service)

And here are vidoes done by jonathan of completed rings.

and here are videos of the custom rings they've done.

By far high quality pieces so I'm not sure what you aren't impressed with

It was quick assumption on my part. I only browsed for a quick second at work and I will be able to look further on my lunch break. I have no doubt, I probably jumped the gun.

I greatly appreciate all of your help. You guys are fantastic and I am disappointed in myself for not coming on pricescope sooner. Thank you again, it really means a lot.

No worries! Just check them out and if you gave them your budget and a style I have no doubt GOG will pull though for you. They have amazing service (great upgrade and buyback polices-heaven forbid you need to use it though) and can take high def. videos for comparison of settings and stones so you know what you're getting before you pull the trigger. Then of course after you've seen the videos when you get it in person it will blow you away even more than you thought-they are very good at doing that ::)

The ASET pretty much is what I expected: bright overall, but there is some leakage in the four corners under the table.

I just recieved an email from James Allen in reference to the diamond I posted. Does everyone think I should pass on the stone or purchase it?

I still have an email into GOG, but I have not heard back from them...I'm sure they are busy.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again!

This is a GORGEOUS ring and a fabulous deal for a 1.04 carat, GIA certified, G VVS1, no flourescence diamond in a designer tacori setting...the GIA report # is listed, I looked it up and it has Excellent polish and Very Good Symmetry, Thick girdle and measurements are 5.80 x 5.51 x 4.05 mm...pretty sick deal for the price (they are asking $4000) and i am sure you can even negotiate on that. If you are okay with purchasing a preowned ring I say go for it!

I would call GOG and watch that first video that I linked you to. Jonathan called in a "signature" princess cut from another store and compared it to theirs via video. It's got a GIA grade and is ex/ex/ex on polish/etc and compared to the ones that GOG has in the video (which is lower in color than the one he called in) it knocks it out of the park. It's almost not even a fair comparison

Ask for Jonathan for stones and Sarah usually does settings. It's a family run business so no matter who you work with you'll get amazing service but since it's right after the holidays and with Valentines day right around the corner they are probably pretty busy. They also have a facebook page that you can check out where they have more videos/pictures/etc
