The first of three necklace additions has arrived and I love it! I believe this is late Victorian due to the clasp - but really the extant restringing job would be from the 60’s at the very earliest, more likely the 80’s.

However it makes me question whether the half-lavalier coral rose I’ve been wearing is a bit much now, and should ought to be paired back up with its partner and set as dormeuse style earrings. Thoughts?

Gorgeous!!! I guess the roses were earrings once? They could go back to being earrings and would frame the face nicely when worn with the coral beads!
And I love the black and white Wedgwood!!
I have the same one in the blue version.

Hello gorgeous  My absolute favourite coral colour! And those beads look to be in rather nice condition, seems like someone took care of this piece ::)

Loving the idea of turning the roses back into earrings. Would you consider studs? My coral rose studs are in my top five most worn. Yours have so much depth, then be beautiful stationary on the lobe, and that would help reduce weight too.

@mrs-b Thanks for your patience - I needed new batteries to weigh this necklace - sorry it took me a while!

It is 30.5” long not including the dog clip and slightly above 9g. All 14k, and as close as I can document, made circa 1912-1914.

Obviously as soon as I see a fairly-priced similar chain, I will tag you <3

Another necklace has arrived and it is exactly what I wanted! I've been searching online for the maker's mark to no avail, but at any rate I'm very happy with it - and now searching for earrings to pair with it!

In other news, I have now officially run out of little baggies.

@PreRaphaelite -

Thank you so much! I'm struggling to find one the weight I want, the length I want, and not too chunky. If I'd been willing to accept 9kt, I could have had one ages ago. but I want 14kt min. Yours is perfect. PS ladies always have the BEST jewels!

Well, it was a special occasion and I felt lucky. So I took a chance.

Hera, queen of the gods. 18k, carved shell, signed on the reverse, circa 1850-1870. Identifiable by her Diadem and veil, if memory serves (a fragment of faded memory from Classical Art History back in undergrad). The newest addition to the pantheon, in the Etruscan Revival/Grande Tour capsule.

There’s a new bracelet, and a delicate necklace, too, but those both need repair so I’ll save them for another post.

I haven’t found an Aphrodite cameo yet. Meanwhile, It might be a really bad idea to store Hera nearby to my Athena pendant. You reckon?

“But, but, but… PreRaph, PR, Raphy, Rafaela, RAF-RAF baby, RaffachinoNoFoam, what about evening?” I hear you say. Well, yes, natch. I remember.

Evening.

I had a look in mind, Of a certain place, of an era. As ever, it starts with earrings.

B51D6D7A-36FD-4E39-96E3-607BB3A6B707.jpeg

One is ever-so-slightly longer than the other, which annoyed me - until I realised that in fact I am very coincidentally asymmetric-of-earlobe. 14k blush-y vintage gold and nephrite (sold as, and I believe).

My pearls wrapped around one wrist. A black folding hand fan with tassel. A dab of prada Femme behind the ears. And the perfect balsam green silk charmeuse gown, deep V-back of course. Currently searching for a matching velvet 2-button fitted jacket, because one does feel a slight chill when listening to Chopin, doesn't one, darling?

I have loved jade drop earrings since I was a child. I was always reading, and dreaming about beautiful things and faraway places. Something written by Pearl Buck about ladies in the courts wearing jade drops in their ears.......

These jade drops are fantastic....and will compliment your lovely hair, I'm sure..

Stylish earrings and a stylish post. I have always thought of pear drop earrings as the epitome of elegance. Your post captures the mood perfectly.

Another layer of lush, for the Grand Tour capsule. Garnet carbuncle ring, in 14k. Fits perfectly on my right pinky. Makes me think of drinking port, beslippered, in front of a smouldering fire, and reading Keats (he was fond of garnets, as we all know). I have no time to linger now, alas. But what an evening could be had, alone betwixt the bookshelf and the liquor cabinet!

As promised, here is our old friend Edwina.
E3C8A0F1-4E5E-4992-ABCD-69B5762599A9.jpeg

Edwardian 18k yellow gold orphaned single earring mount, and an random old 18k chain, both thrifted. I set her myself, in a fit of pique.
03DD10B5-E8EE-4949-B7CE-7EDC7C2B2FD2.jpeg

She sits exactly where she should, at the base of my throat, and the chain, while not as delicate as I'd like, is sturdy enough to keep her from flipping. It'll do for now.
A3FFEF4D-BAB2-40F4-B3B7-95ECBFB1BCC1.jpeg

It's been a long time coming. But she's happy in this dress, simple as it may be.
3E99D63E-0125-4FFA-8D81-B6C28A23A628.jpeg

This was my "beginner's luck" stone, and it took courage to reach for her. They do say Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat, do they not?
6ECFED00-5C40-45DF-9C85-4F65FB95A05B.jpeg

Worth every moment of fear, uncertainty, and doubt, every futile hour searching for mounts, and especially, every day I worked to earn my way to her.

This is one good looking carbuncle!
If I'm going to have a carbuncle, this is the kind to have!!! I'm pretty sure I don't want the other kind.
Perhaps my local gem shop has some garnet carbuncles. I will ask, maybe they will accommodate me.
In which case I will craft one for myself in sterling.
This will be a good excuse to go there and drool on the cases!

Just...wow! Love the cameo, the ring, and Edwina's new dress. Is this new dress for the lass just until you find the perfect friend for an earring mate?

Newest member of the family: Miss Lucy Honeychurch.

Wanton, luscious, fragile, and in need of a good cleaning. Late Victorian, 18k, pearl, amethyst. Size of a quarter, with that lovely circular pin catch. Happy Christmas!

New stone, who dis?

I bought this planning to harvest the center stone and scrap the setting, as white gold is not optimal for my skin. I expected the stone to be very coloured based on the seller photos, but in person she is very pale indeed, and not nearly as deep/warm as I'd hoped. Best guess is about V-W colour, no fluor.

Terrible photo below is for puffy crown and frosted girdle illustration purposes. The videos herein show the best capture I could get on her tint.

Plan to reset the center stone remains in play, but the setting is actually lovely and substantial, and worth salvaging, so the melee Mine cuts will stay in situ, and I'll find a warm pearl or pale topaz to mount in its place. It's very much a Wedding style necklace and not something for daily wear. The back is actually prettier than the front as the lace effect really shows. But then, one wouldn't wear it backwards.

I'm struggling to think what colour gold to mount her in; choices include David Klass's 14k "antique" blush gold or un-plated 18k white, or the ever-popular oxidised silver. I originally planned to use rose gold, but I suspect that wouldn't work after all. Either way, it'll be prongs not bezel, because I just love to see a frosted girdle.

Also she needs a name! "Oatmeal" is accurate, but unflattering! Was thinking maybe "Evalyn" (after the elder Mrs. McLean, of course).
