Lovely with cherry blossom detail. Understated elegance.

I have yet to find anyone who likes this one as much as I do. But I love it. When I posted it, many of the ladies on here thought it would look amazing with orange roses instead of red for a Halloween wedding.

I like it the way it is.

Lovely octagonal cake. Tropical. I always thought this one should have something like a lovely mango mouse inside. Love the orchids.

Finally my cake. But the flower decorating the top layer will look NOTHING like that (no orchid antenae). They'll be orange and green. And the flowers on the bottom layer will be a couple of small orange orchids. I also found that exact cake stand. It's simple but it's just right for us... and to show of the lovely flowers. Plus the buttercream actually (gasp) looks edible instead of like plaster. Which I think it a nice bonus.

ooh gypsy! I love your cake! I am looking for something really similar - simple, some dots somewhere, round, etc. I may just steal your cake! ;)

Aww, thanks Sunny! Feel free to steal, I stole it from the knot LOL. According to the lovely and wonderful Freke, and our baker, you should use Suisse buttercream to get that look. It''s made over a stove top like a merangue (spelling?) and is buttery not saccharine sweet and just the perfect accent to a truly yummy cake.

This is the cake I picked for my wedding just a week ago! We're doing it in a light blue (to match some of the groomsmens ties) with pale green leaves (that match the ushers ties), light pinks with a hint of magenta (to match the girls dresses). We're doing one less tier and a 3 lettered monogram with a bow on it (one less tier = top tier, everythng shifts down, bottom tier stays the same though). It's built a bit differently since it's a cake for 80 vs 150 or whatever that photo is for. I can't wait to see it when it's done! I love it!

This is my cake maker, she won some food network competitions.

ETA: The cake is buttercream icing, with sugar and gumpaste flowers, no fondant!

Sorry that didn't attach the first time!

Anyways I wanted to add that our cake maker took cuttings of all of the fabrics I'm using in the wedding to match the colors. Pretty cool!

This is also one of her own designs I picked from her portfolio!

As I am yet to be engaged (that''s a topic for another time and another forum

) I have no cake picked out. However, I''m in a cherry blossom frenzy right now and we''ve talked about an early spring wedding, so it would be a fun theme. Here are a few of my faves.

My other fav cherry blossom cake.

Gypsy - I also love the cherry blossom design you posted! Its neat to see the design in a different color scheme.

There''s a very pretty cherry blossom on my cake makers site. I''ll post the picture later when I get home and can use photoshop vs being on my laptop in a hotel room!

OK LADIES!! I''m doubting my choice of cake!!

Can I change it if I already picked it out and put a deposit down?

Hey bensbride</strong I went through a cherry blossom frenzy a few months ago let me know if you want any links! I spent months searching for cherry blossom stuff. Haha.

courtney I am sorry I don''t have an answer, but hopefully someone will. Is it in your contract?

I''m not even close to getting engaged, but I love looking at wedding cakes. These two are my favorites

Mine should look a little bit like this, only with wired fruit and grapes instead of roses:

, BUT, we sent our cake maker a closeup of the detail on my dress and picked our favorite flavors and colors and then pretty much let her have free reign, and I love the way it came out. It looks like some of the trim might be uneven in this pictured, but it really wasn''t in person - I loved our cake, and the detail on the top layer was more or less intact when we defrosted it a year later.

Here''s a closer shot to show the detailing

Your cake is lovely Amber.

That is the most similar to my ideas that I've ever seen-based on elements-not really similar at all to what mine will actually look like... I could draw out my idea, but it would take some time. So I'll describe it. 3 plain tiers of Italian Buttercream with some kind of ribbon around the bottom (probably black satin) with pillars in between. I'm not sure about the shapes of the cakes yet, but I'm leaning towards round because they are the easiest to frost. Then I'm going to make royal icing filligree scrollwork that will go in between the tiers and cover up the pillars-it will be painted silver with a blue W in the middle. It'll be really complex work, but I've never seen anything like it, so I'm looking forward to it. And to doing it!

WOW! more power to ya, freke! i just recently figured out how to boil noodles without messing them up--do you think i should make my own wedding cake?
3.gif
hmm...ya know, i did make a naked lady cake for my best friend''s birthday one time, and except for one boob being bigger than the other, that turned out really well....maybe i could have a naked lady wedding cake!

Hee hee hee hee hee...do it!!!

Nah, I''m not worried about it. I''m keeping it really easy being that I''ll be doing it the week before the wedding. If the description of the decoration and 3 different flavors of cake and fillings counts as easy!! Not to mention the Italian Buttercream that will cover it. Heh.

Is it weird that I have it all planned out even if the event is probably a good 2 years off and I''m not even engaged?

BTW Gyps-I like that cake just as it is with the red roses. It would be gorgeous for a red/white/black wedding!!

This reminds me of the winter wonderland scene in the figment ride at Epcot Center!! Pre-renovation...

(Please someone know what I'm talking about, haha)

This was our nautical themed caked. Some of the frosting seashells got a bit damp in the rain, and are misshapen, but they were beautiful regardless. The cake was two layers, with cobalt blue ribbon around the base of each. Chocolate with raspberry chocolate ganache filling on the bottom, and white cake with lemon filling on the top. Man, I loved that cake...
