Possibly the dumbest question ever but here goes

My vote is for platinum! My original e-ring is platinum and my wedding band is white gold and I’ve had them both for about 10 years and definitely prefer the way the platinum has worn.

Side note, BEAUTIFUL emerald! What are the specs? I am in the process of buying an emerald and setting it in a platinum three stone. Long story (in another post) but got the ring and felt like the stone wasn’t as bright as I’d like. The jeweler offers a free return / exchange so waiting on the aset image for another diamond. In the meantime, if it’s helpful for you, here’s a video of an I 2.5 emerald in platinum. Wedding band is white gold and middle finger band is yellow gold.

thank you! I have decided on platinum! Now I’m trying to figure out between 900ir and 950ru. I had no idea there were so many platinum alloys. Mine is an I as well! 3.67 ct I VS1. I have been following your journey as well. I’m so excited to see your new stone! Do you have an ETA on it?

Aw thanks! I should have photos, videos, and an ASET from Frank Darling this week!!

I was told by my jeweler that iridium mix is too soft and that ruthenium is stronger, if that factors into your lifestyle. 950ru is what Tiffany uses and they are supposedly more difficult to make due to the hardness, which is why most jewelers prefer to use 900ir/950ir or mixed with palladium which are all softer.

I have a 950ru, 950ir, and 950pt with 3% gallium & 2% copper (this is Cartier’s platinum mix). Out of the 3 I do prefer the look of the 950ru in terms of color and wear & tear. The other two scratch much more easily & I find I also prefer the patina on the 950ru. I think it’s personal preference/lifestyle choice here, I’m not rough on my rings and I take them off at home but I personally don’t want my jewelry to look worn out quickly. I know others love the patina look though. My husband was actually thinking of purposely scratching up his wedding band (also 950ru) with sandpaper when we first got married to which I said absolutely NOT. It has since aged and patina’d nicely over time.

Edit to add: here’s a quick summary link of the different platinum alloys if you wanted to compare the hardness & overall durability notes. I forgot to mention I also do own a 950co and it’s comparable to the 950ru in terms of wear & tear but I still prefer the color & patina on 950ru more. Hope this helps!

My apologies if you've already answered this question, but....

Where did that stunning diamond come from?? Would you mind sharing? And was it cut specifically for you or no?

Gorgeous, gorgeous stone!

Just to ask again - could you pls answer my questions above? I'm looking for the origin of your beautiful diamond, and whether it was cut specifically for you.

Could you fill me in pls? Thank you!

Not OP, and could be mistaken, but I believe @Mjay purchased this from Ritani.

I’m so sorry. I totally got distracted by my kids and forgot to answer your question. I purchased it from Ritani (I do not recommend them). The same stone was also available on rarecarat from a few other vendors. it was not specifically cut for me but I knew what I was looking for as far as depth, table, etc. I went through with the purchase in spite of my bad experience because I fell in love with the stone after watching the videos.
