I’m a bit embarrassed for asking this but I need confirmation. This is normal for an EC in a stone holder correct? I won’t have weird reflections when I actually set the stone with prongs on each corner right? I’ve noticed reflections when emerald cuts are compass set but I just want to make sure. I absolutely LOVE my stone and it looks great IMO but I just want to make sure. The depth of the stone is 64.4 which is within ideal depth range for an EC. Ratio is a bit on the enlongated side at 1.47, but I like that. I just want to confirm this is normal and sure it’s going to look ok set. 134ED835-A154-4E71-AB53-5272AAF1251B.jpeg13386CB5-2CD6-4120-B841-062CFFF6D4AA.jpeg25D078E7-1811-4814-BC17-4C8BFE3AB7B4.jpeg

Guessing here, but it's gotta be the placement in the middle of the long facets is causing the problem. Are you doing claws on the clipped corners? It is amazing!

That’s what I’m thinking/hoping. And yes! Just a simple solitaire with claws on corners.

Yes, that is your stone holder reflecting through your diamond.

May I just say.... DAAAAAANG girl, no wonder you wanted that EC so much! It is absolutely fantastic! <3

This. It's just a reflection, and your setting wont look like the stone holder so it wont have that problem.

Also omgggggg that stone!!!!

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure it’s just due to the positioning. If I see reflections from prongs after it’s set it will drive me crazy! Yes!!!!! I needed it!!!! I’m obsessed.

You know…I just send my ring back to Klass because at certain angles I could see the claw prong tips reflected in the stone at times (I wear glasses). This particular stone I’m speaking of is an unmentionable AVC. I’m having him reset it in a bezel now.
Can you use something (jerry rig) skinny at the spots where your prongs will be to see if it does reflect? Beautiful stone!! :kiss2:

please post a thread on it when you get it set! omg!

Thank you for mentioning this! That is exactly my concern. I’ll play around and see what I can jerry rig. I had considered bezeling it as well so I could always go that route

What a gorgeous stone!

Holy Toledo that is a beautiful EC!

Nothing else to add. Carry on.

Stunning

Update! Thank you everyone for your confirmation and kind words. I played around with paper clips and there aren’t any reflections when the paper clip prongs are placed on the cut corners. The one negative that I did notice is that in poor light, at certain angles; I will most likely be able to see the setting a bit through some of the windows near the center. After obsessively looking at videos of emerald cut solitaires on Instagram; I have determined this to be normal. I’ll have to play around with it a bit but I don’t think it will bother me. Now I just have to decide on a metal (18k yellow or platinum) and single prong or double. I’m the worst at making decisions so I’ll most likely be posting in “show me the bling” sometime next year- kidding, well hopefully.

Wow that there is a pretty diamond. Elongated = awesome.

I have seen three really special emerald cut diamonds in my career. They are very rare!

I bought and sold two of them, and have fun tales to share when the moments are appropriate, usually after dinner at a nice restaurant with people I enjoy.

It is very hard to say from the photos without seeing the gem live to verify, but this looks to be a great looking diamond. You have already received correct information about the prongs from the stone holder and I agree that it is incredibly unlikely that the prongs will be visible from the corner placement.

Please enjoy and share photos of the finished piece with us.

Wink

adding to the chorus--i have no idea about reflections but that's absolutely gorgeous and i want one!!!

It's a beautiful EC! Unfortunately step-cuts are like a hall of mirrors so at some point something will bounce around. My Asscher looked perfect when unset but in its setting there is an angle or two where it's reflecting interestingly. Overall nothing that bad and not much you can do about it unless you tension set a step-cut I guess!

What a drool-worthy stone!!!

Given the bezel option, I was also just wondering about something sort of tension-settingesque as an alternative to possibly explore. I don’t know if any PSers have experience with them, but I’ve seen on IG that Frank Darling does an interesting “clutch setting”. Don’t know if it floats your boat, but maybe this is another option that might be worth considering?

Not quite my jam but very interesting. I would definitely consider a full bezel though

I’m trying to decide exactly how I want to set it. I’m torn between metal colors (as always). Stone is an I color. I usually love warmth but for this stone; I want it to look as white as possible. I don’t have any experience with platinum. I’m wondering if it would be a good choice or if 18 k palladium white gold would be better. I plan to stack and want it to look good with a 22k gold band. I’m either doing 18k yellow shank with white head or all platinum or white gold. I attached an inspiration pic. Obviously this setting is for a round stone but you get the idea. Also torn on cathedral vs non cathedral. I’m concerned the shoulders on a cathedral setting might reflect. Thoughts? 3DD30C92-9321-447E-A03C-F729CE33DF84.jpeg

I still can't get over how BRIGHT that emerald cut is!!

Can I ask where you purchased your stone from? It is beautiful!

I purchased it from Ritani, however; I would never recommend anyone purchase from them. It worked out in the end but was an absolute nightmare. I started a thread on it. They don’t own their Inventory so the same stone was also on rarecarat.

Another PSer (thanks @EClove) just posted a review of Frank Darling and mentioned this setting https://frankdarling.com/rings/parker-no-11/. I scrolled through pictures and thought this one offered you something to think about regarding head metal choice vs band. If those cathedral sides are part of your dream setting, you might want to consider that they be in platinum rather than yellow gold—it looks like at some angles they’re showing through the side traps, kind of like your ring holder did?

Thank you! This is very helpful. I have decided that I’m definitely going with platinum or white gold.

My vote is for platinum! My original e-ring is platinum and my wedding band is white gold and I’ve had them both for about 10 years and definitely prefer the way the platinum has worn.

Side note, BEAUTIFUL emerald! What are the specs? I am in the process of buying an emerald and setting it in a platinum three stone. Long story (in another post) but got the ring and felt like the stone wasn’t as bright as I’d like. The jeweler offers a free return / exchange so waiting on the aset image for another diamond. In the meantime, if it’s helpful for you, here’s a video of an I 2.5 emerald in platinum. Wedding band is white gold and middle finger band is yellow gold.
