Stones among my close friends really vary, anywhere from .5 to 2.5 carats. Mine is about average at 1.6 but there is quite a range.

Since the landscape is always shifting that way, IMO it's a race you'll never win, and it's easier just to be happy with what you have.

I like to look at it that way. I just think it is interesting how I feel self-conscious in groups where it's bigger and in groups when it's smaller for different reasons. I guess I just have to get over it. Haha. I'm just new to this fine jewelry game.

I work from home and I work a lot of hours, so I am sad to say I have no idea what most people's rings look like here in the Midwest. I know, I know! I'm seriously lucky if I leave the house once a week and then I am always in a rush so, I guess I'm one of those rare PS'ers that tends not to notice such things.

I think I read somewhere that .48 is about the average size for the Midwest--I was kind of surprised it wasn't at least 1 carat. I'm going to have to start noticing and get back to you because if this is the case, my diamond is quite a bit larger. I am pretty sure it is quite a bit larger than my friends, but honestly, I couldn't even tell you what size diamonds my friends wear. I've never even noticed what shape or size diamond my SIL has--and she is a full on designer handbag, cosmetic surgery, expensive shoes kind of a gal--I'm thinking it must be substantial. I'll have to spy on it this Thanksgiving when they come to dinner. :naughty:

Anyone got any good tips for spying without looking obvious????? :rodent:

I had read a couple of places that the Midwest average was like .65. But then again that might not exclude outliers like Chicago. I know it's .5 or lower in my area of the Midwest.

Yeah, I have seen ladies sporting some huge rocks in Chicago and surrounding suburbs! :naughty:

When I consider my IRL friends (outside of PSers that have become IRL friends) I have about the same size but a better performing diamond (with one exception who is someone that was an IRL friend first and then became a fellow PSer... her diamond is about 20% bigger than mine and is just as pretty in the sparkle department). Out of my IRL/nonPSer friends who are engaged or married 2 have smaller stones, 2 have about the same size, 2 have larger (about 0.2 carats larger at most).

Since I'm a collector I definitely have the largest amount of non-wedding set stuff (studs, BGD Aurora, BGD micropave eternity are in my everyday wear grouping). The only people I know who have more are PSers.

I'm right around the same carat size in my center stone as most of the ladies I know and family members with one just in the past few months going with a 1.50 ct solitaire. But I would half to say mine is the best performing of them all.
