When Leon was setting my Paraiba I initially wanted to have it set higher. But I decided to go with his recommendation as I love his aesthetic eye. And I love the outcome!
When you work with a designer like Leon or Victor it is important that you like their aesthetic eye as well as not willing to micro manage the process.

As Leon has a more complicated 'character manual' I would recommend working with Victor. But I spoke with Leon twice and found him really nice and funny. He also is a good listener. His humor is not everyone's cup of tea though.

I had Victor source my stone as he didn't have any in stock that were within the specs and budget I was trying to stick to. He has a great eye - we ended up calling in maybe 4-5 stones before we found "the one". But he was very helpful in his opinions on color, clarity (I wanted a "good" SI1), etc. Also there was a slight discount on the setting because we sourced the stone thru him (5% or 10%, I can't recall).

That is interesting. Perhaps he has changed his opinion then. Not sure when you talked to him, but when I had my ring made he was amendable to changing heights, but I deferred to his preference because I liked his designs. I trusted his opinions. If I was going back and doing it again, I would have made it a little higher.

Most recently was last year. Prior to that was before the Vatche. Prior to that was the setting the Vatche replaced. Prior to that was the setting I was going to replace my damaged setting with on my old stone. Nothing had changed. For me, height is a non-negotiable.

Well, it certainly would merit a discussion with him because it seems a lot of other people have asked him to do the same and he was very amendable to it. I am not sure why he gave you a hard time about it. But since others have asked him, and he had no problem with it, and definitely didn't say no, you can't really make a blanket statement saying he won't do it.

I voted for the LM Setting. I believe thats the best!
