Poll: How Many Carats Do You Have?

Adding it all up - not just your larger stones, but also your DBTYs, your unworn jewelery, your inherited bits and bobs, all the tiny-point diamonds in your settings, how many carats does it add up to? Don't count everything that has passed through your hands in the past. How many do you have right now?

Well typical... I didnt read the instructions correctly, and just added my two major stones together.
So I got 3.00-5.00.
But if I added all the other little pointers in, that would kick me into the next level: 5.00-8.00.
Still got a way to mix with the 'big girls', I see lol

I'm in the 3.00 - 5.00 range.

That includes an engagement ring with a 0.47 keystone, an eternity ring - no idea how many carats but because I as on the lower side of 3-5 it wouldn't be enough to push the into the next category, a 2nd engagement ring with about 1/3 carat, 2nd wedding ring with 0.11 in diamonds, and two pairs of OEC earrings.

We can do another poll for coloured stones, if you like? It would be difficult, though, because sapphires, for example, are often measured in mm rather than carat weight due to their density. So I have the mm for my sapphire set, but not the weights, kwim??

Just worked out that I have 13.25 carats. However, that is spread over 41diamond-containing pieces. The largest stone I have is my e-ring at 0.70, followed by my studs at 0.56 each, my solitaire diamond pendant at 0.52, and my pear halo pendant at 0.50 for the pear plus 0.27 halo, then it does down from there into baby bezels, DBTY, pave, etc. I think my collection is quite different from some on PS, where people seem to have fewer but larger pieces.

These 41 pieces are not counting my coloured stones, my pearl jewellery, and my plain metal pieces...

I have maybe a couple of carats of diamonds in various pieces of jewelry (engagement ring, anniversary band, various melee) but I NEVER wear anything that doesn't have a CS for the center stone. (I quit wearing my engagement ring 10 yrs or so ago; rarely wear my diamond anniversary band either).

I DO know the carat weights in all of my CS...it's true that we CS fans tend to go by mm, but I would guess that most of us know the ct weight of our gems - I do, anyway

Just for fun I added up some of my things...the tcw of the CS I have that are currently set and are the pieces I wear most (not counting things like CS bead necklaces, I have probably a couple hundred cts of mahenges, mint garnets, various CS beads, etc) is just over 10 cts. So not a whole lot as far as CS go. But, I also added up my favorite/nicest unset loose gems, and that's around 20 cts. I am slowly working on setting things, I'm not planning on buying any more loose gems until I get some more of what I have set! I have another 30 or so cts of gems that I consider "just ok" (some are pretty gems but not gems I care for enough to set).

But diamonds...probably between 1.5 to 2. Nothing exciting, lol.

I personally would be curious to see a CS poll like this one. I do collect kind of a lot I think, but many of my favorite gems are just at or under one carat. It would be fun to see how I compare to everyone else!

If you're not a Pricescoper, then maybe. But there isn't a PSer I know (at least, in CS) that doesn't know the carat weight of their stones. Often memorized. For instance, my 7.8mm sapphire weights 2.35cts. Etc. Also, there are places where you can get a rough calculation of what a 5x7mm sapphire might weigh, for instance.

I have 11+ctw of diamonds. Most of that is from sidestones from my colored stones, my mom's ering, various diamond bands, my earrings and other random tidbits.

As far as carat weight for color goes, my head might explode. I have one necklace alone that's 14ctw in topaz and tourmaline.

My coloured stones were sold to me in mm so I don't know the weights - although I'm not a CS aficionado. I just have the odd gemstone piece. Most of my stuff is diamond or else plain metal.

Yes, I start millions of threads. Do I currently have only 5? That's a pathetic effort. I was on low form yesterday. I won't rest until page upon page are full of my threads. Mine all mine!

I don't have nearly as many diamond pieces as I do CS pieces, but they're the ones I wear most consistently since one is my engagement ring and the other my diamond pendant. Just the two of those together is over 3tcw of diamonds, lol. I also have a 1.1 ct 7 stone, and a .8tcw antique dinner ring, an a .7 oec. Those are my only diamond pieces really, but still over 5ct.
