For those of you who are following my never-ending re-setting saga, I am 99% decided that I''m going to go with a Leon Mege 6-prong solitaire to reset my 2 ct RB (right now it''s in a 4-prong cathedral solitaire).

However, someone started a thread a few weeks ago showing people who switched from a solitaire to a halo, and I was really loving some of those halos.

Can you guys please post pics of larger RBs in halos, maybe 1.5 - 2.5 cts, so I can get an idea of how that would look? Also, I would probably want to wear it with my shared-prong band, so I would especially appreciate pics from any of you who pair your halo with a shared-prong band. Thanks!!!

Dreamer, was that you? That was the best thread. I tried to find it again, but couldn''t (just did a quick search). Just when I thought I had my mind made up, you halo people had to go & confuse me again!

You know, I love my halo and can't imagine changing it. But maybe in a few years, I'll have a yummy solitaire again. I'd hate to give this setting up, so it would probably be a RHR/stunt double ER.

Lately, I miss the simplicity of the solitaire. It's just classic and beautiful.

Vesper, are you prepared for how huge your stone is going to look in a halo? It will be massive. It is big now!

On most days, it will be a lot of fun. But other days, you might get some negative attention. Love or hate it, if you halo a large stone - it's going to get a lot of comments. A much more delicate halo would also be more subtle and on the safe side of not being too flashy. Still, any halo on a larger stone will be a conversation piece and it won't be appropriate for all occasions like a simple, classy solitaire would. That's when I miss mine!

I probably wouldn''t halo a 2 carat! My fear is they start to look like cocktail rings. If I did, I would go with a really thin halo like the Tacori 2620.

I had this pic saved on my laptop for a project I'm working on myself.

But I don't remember to whom this lovely ring belongs. So sorry!

1.85 carats in halo:

My halo is a 2.44 in a michael b. trois setting, with a matching band. (the other ring is van craeynest) I'm too lazy to take new pictures.

My ring is 1.62 ct. First photo is e-ring alone...If you want smaller pics, let me know. I'm posting close up shots, so you can see the detail. The shank is knife edge with three rows of milgrain and pave diamonds between the rows.

This is my halo e-ring with the curved wedding band I had made to fit flush with it. I will try to take another pic of my e-ring with my five stone, shared prong band for you. Check back later

Here''s my RB in a halo with split shank. Center stone is 2.54 and finger size is 6 1/4.

Thanks everyone for posting pics of your gorgeous rings!!!

Laila, thanks so much for posting that other link. I wear a size 5, so my stone does look big on my finger, but then I see everyone''s gorgeous halos, and I think that they are stunning. I am looking to reset next year for my "push present", and I was thinking 6 prong solitiare (I love the way 6 prongs make the stone look rounder and bigger) but then I saw dreamer''s halos thread and it got me thinking ...

Bliss, you posted about sometimes missing the simplicity of your solitaire setting, so I''m a little worried about that as well. Also, my DH is not crazy about halo settings, so he may be less enthused about getting me that as a push present. However, the baby is due in April, and his birthstone will be diamond, so maybe a diamond setting is appropriate ;) (DH bought me citrine earrings when our first son was born, because that is his birthstone).

I really need to go try some halos on. When we first got engaged, I thought that I wanted a vintagey looking setting, like a Beverley K, but they did not suit my hand or my simple, sporty style. I''m wondering if a halo will be too fancy for my everyday outfit (usually jeans, a cute top, and ballet flats).

The B&M where we got my diamond stocks Tacori & several other designers. Since I''d be looking at a very delicate halo, along the lines of a Tacori, I think I need to go try some on & see what looks better on my hand. Thanks again for all the pics, and keep em coming!

Vesper you know that Mervis is having their trunk sale this weekend. There will be lots of designer pieces there to try on!

A halo with your eternity band would be a lot - could be beautiful but you''d have to be real sure that it''s the look you want.

Oh, that''s right - I think they sent me their postcard, but I forgot about it. That''s a great idea - I will try to get there this weekend to try on some new settings.

Thanks!

I''m having some difficulty resizing my halo plus shared prong band. If you would still like to see it, I would be happy to give the pics another try. Just let me know

vespergirl, I totally sympathize with the indecisiveness, and also with that halo thread making me scratch my head & ask, "and WHY didn''t I get a halo?" They all look so stunning in pictures. And I must admit, for smaller diamonds, I''ve seen some that looked infinitely prettier in their halo setting than in a simple solitaire. But I also agree with dreamer_dachsie about not loving them on my own hand, especially - if round, the larger they get. (On my hand, a large round starts to feel like a big disc - this would be true even of a huge round solitaire to some extent.) Also what Bliss said & Laila619 said, I can relate to. And also as MGR said, you have to be sure it''s the look you want. You definitely need to see them on your own hand to know. I drool over so many rings here in pictures on PS that I would probably never wear myself.

Still, although for myself I never could go for one, every time I look at the photos of them on here, & some I''ve seen IRL, I think I must be crazy for not!

I can show you a before & after of my ring, going from a modern halo to *no* halo, bezel set antique platinum filigree. The afters are a bit craptastic. 3 1/2ct OEC.

This is the no-halo reset, with a very thin bezel. I actually think it looks a smidge bigger without the halo on it.

ETA: My finger in the first pic w/ the halo is about a 6 to 6 1/2, in the after/reset shot it's a 5. So that could be skewing the perceived size a bit, actually.

Center stone is almost 2 carats.

diamondguru- I love you ring with the different shapes. I''m thinking about doing the same with my 2 ct round. I just love the cushion shape of the ring. I''m hoping mine comes out like yours because it is to die for!

Quest is having a big sale this weekend too!

You know I was actually really worried about putting my diamond in a halo because I thought people would make a lot more comments about it and I didn''t want to draw that kind of attention. I have a 3.52 OEC. The halo around the stone and everywhere else makes it 4.89 and when I wear my two bands I have about 7.25 carats on my finger. HOWEVER I have found out now after actually wearing the ring for a year and a half that I don''t get thaaaat many comments about it. So I have come to a few conclusions:

1. I live in an area where people see large rings on a fairly regular basis so I have just another "big" ring
2. People just don''t want to be rude and choose not to say anything
3. People thinks it''s fake and again choose to say nothing
4. Nobody actually looks at my ring and cares as much as I do about it
5. OR my ring is absolutely hidious and no one wants to say anything....

At any rate it doesn''t even look that big to me anymore... perhaps I am havie that thing people call on here... ring shrinkage! BUT trust me I have no intention of ever going bigger... this is more, let me say that again MORE than enough for me. I am just saying I have gotten used to it and it doesn''t look or feel that big to me anymore. Maaaaaybe every once in a while I think it''s big but on average I just think yup that''s my wedding ring. So my opinion... you get used to what you have. I love halos, but I also love solitares!

Here''s a pic I just got from my jeweler...
