Is a 2ct Round Brilliant too big to have a small halo around it?? I want a big ring, but I don''t want it to look silly. Any feedback/pics are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no way! lots of PS''rs have 2 ct and bigger in a halo, and look gorgous! i guess it''s all up to taste, but i don''t think 2 ct in a halo is tacky or silly or gaudy at all.

Nope, i don''t think 2ct round is too big for a halo. But "I" don''t think they look like engagement rings at that size either. Just my opinion though.

I think a halo would look lovely in that size.

I personally wouldn''t put a halo on a 2 ct. round. I might on a cushion or asscher, though, since they often face up a bit smaller.

what size finger do you have? I agree with Diamondseeker that personally a RB 2 carat in a halo would be too much for me but I guess it would also somewhat depend on where you live/social cirle and lifestyle. I just think large rounds in halo''s look more cocktail ring like.

My ring size is a 5.25. We narrowed it down to two rings today...either this w/ a 2ct cushion w/ a ratio that makes it look more rectangular... http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/RL-1571

or a ring similar to Halolover's only with a 2 ct. round brilliant center stone... https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/engaged-in-paris-the-long-story-and-pictures.79763/

Both rings are beautiful in my eyes!!!! It's a tough choice.

We've dragged this out long enough and are already looking into wedding ceremony sites, etc. but still don't have the ring. We need a ring!! I really need to decide by Monday which direction I am going. Both rings are beautiful but I am afraid of the 2ct rb halo. My gut tells me that if that is the ring I want, I need to go with a smaller center stone and I'm not going to lie...I love the idea of having a nice big 2ct rock!!! My boyfriend has assured me that this is by no means the last ring I'm going to be getting and if I want a huge cocktail ring for my right hand down the road, he will give me that. Basically, we are both a little worried that the 2ct halo is going to look too gaudy on my hands. We are having a difficult time picturing it (the ring we looked at today had a 1ct center stone). The other ring is more simple and understated. Its classy but I also worry that I will get bored with it. However, knowing that I will have other rings in my future has me leaning towards the cushion at this point.

Additionally, if I go with the 2ct round brilliant halo, I will have to wait until May to get the ring because its more expensive than the 2ct cushion.

Ugh. Who knew it was going to be this difficult? My stomach is literally in knots over this decision. I absolutely adore Halolvoer's ring but I also liked that nice 2ct cushion. I don't think I will sleep tonight while I make this decision!

Personally for me a 2ct RB is sizeable enough to stand on it''s own no halo required :)

Either setting is beautiful though :)

jeez, how can people have such small hands!! well, being that you say your size is 5 ish, you can easily go with the cushion. i love the setting you picked. i don''t see how you can get bored with that. it''s going to look big on your little hand. good luck!

I have a 1.75ct in a halo, but my hand is a size 7.

I like the Richard Landi setting, but I''d be worried about all those little diamonds eternity set. Could you wear a wedding band with it?

Here is a picture of my ring...

I personally like the ring in the first link you posted with that size of rb. I also love halos but prefer them with non-round cuts, mainly because I looked at a 2 carat rb with a halo and loved the size but the saleslady told me it looked like a hat on my hand lol. Ever since then I see a hat too! If you do go for the halo, a think a nice understated halo around the diamond would be better than a thicker one. It is really hard to decide though! I gave my fiance lots of tips when he was shopping for mine, and every time I come to PS I see a new ring I like and wonder if i like that one better lol...I love my ring though and feel lucky just to have one and I am sure whichever you choose you will be very happy with it too :)

Ummm...I like halos, but not a fan of halos on larger than 1 carat RBs. I like them on fancy shapes, such as cushions, asschers, pears, etc., but for some reason they look a little "trying too hard" on over a carat RBs. Just giving my .02 here...do with it what you will.

Okay, don''t take this the wrong way...

I think 2cts is large enough alone and they don''t need the assistance of a halo. When you put a halo around a larger stone (2cts+) they start to look like cocktail costume jewelry.

But whatever you decide, I''m sure it will be lovely.

People think very differently. I would say I NEED a halo on a 2ct diamond. But that''s just me. I think size preference may change with the amount of exposure we get to big diamonds every day. In my area, it is quite common for 3ct plus rocks.

I have seen a lot of comments on here regarding big sizes as "tacky" or "gaudy". I must say, some of classiest ladies I have met have huge rocks and pull it off with 100 percent tact.

In the end, I wouldn''t worry about what anyone else thinks. You know what will make you happy, now and in the long run.

I would say that it could stand on its own quite well. But, it is about what you want. You sound really unsure, do you have to make the deicision Monday?

Hi DesignChica,

I say that if a halo is what your heart desires - go for it! I think that there are many 2+ct stones with halos on PS.

To address your concern, I think you need to check out a few different halo types. Some are quite substantial and some are very delicate and dainty. I prefer the latter. I think that when done with a thin shank (ala Harry Winston), it looks fab.

Of course, Im EXTREMELY baised as I have a 2ct round with a halo (see my avatar). However, I wear a size 7 ring, so the extra real estate is most welcome. However, there are still substantial "gaps" on each side of my finger.

Much luck in finding the ring of your dreams! I would be happy to post hand pics if you like.

I wouldn''t say this Leon looks silly at all; it''s just personal preference. Have you tried on rings that would be as large as the 2ct halo?

Hi Chia,
Just curious, have you tried on anything IRL with a 2ct and halo? (I''m guessing no from ur indecision)

Personally, if it were my decision, I like the first ring from GOG u have posted, especially with a 2ct. I think that design will look very classic and still Very blingy with the pave shank and gallery

I''m of the opinion that a larger stone like that doesn''t require a halo - then again, I wear ring size 3.5 - 4 - although at 5.25 you are also small

I say go without the halo for now, especially since ur boy says you can get it as a RHR later - we shoud all be so lucky!

Pls do let us know what you decide, and of course - pictures!

Ditto to all, but especially having to decide so soon. This is not something you rush. Tell boyfriend you need time, so he doesn''t have to go through "do overs".

i agree. also, i agree that trying some 2 carat stones on with halo''s will really be able to help you. i just have found the only way to really know what look you like, what looks comfortable you one etc. is to see and try them on in person.

I don''t think that''s too big for a halo, but it all boils down to personal preference. The settings you linked are great!

What a lovely dilema!

If it were ME (which it is not

) I would put the 2ct rb into a lovley simple setting without a halo. I''m thinking pear sidstones or tapered bag''s if you want extra sparkles. But I would not halo. Add side stones or ''big-up'' the centre stone with the money saved from ''not-haloing'' the ring.

Hi DC,

I really LOVE that Landi setting you posted....if it were me, that''s probably what I would go with, but youre the one who has to make the decison!!! It seems that you are having a really hard time deciding, and like someone else said, I would just slow down and take some time to really do your research...Try on both styles on your own hand, and see what you prefer. Dont rush this decision- you dont want to regret anything!!!! Good luck!

I think a 2ct round in a halo looks great. I''m bias of course as I have a 3ct round in a halo and love it. After 7-8 years wearing my 3ct without the halo, I started to get diamond shrinkage syndrome and changing my setting to a halo cured that for me. It makes my stone look big and blingy. I have a size 5 finger. I will try and add pictures later today so you can see what a 3ct in halo looks like.

Hey Ladies...thanks for all of the feedback and pics. It is greatly appreciated!

To clarify, I have tried on both settings. However, the halo rb setting was with a one carat stone. We have been to about 15 jewelry stores in the past few weeks to try on settings. The Richard Landi setting w/ the 2ct cushion was very "me" and I was certain it was "the one" until we came across the setting like Halolover''s. After sleeping on it and discussing it more with my boyfriend, I am 95% positive we are going with the Richard Landi w/ the cushion. It was surprisingly comfortable on my hand despite the three-sided pavé. We are also considering having it set w/a rb but the rectangular cushion looked really nice on my long fingers.

like i said, i love the setting and cushion you posted and sounds like it would look great on you! i have a 2 ct rb in a "robust" halo, looks like halo lovers, but like i said a little more "robust" . it works for me becasue i have size 7 hands and a muscular build, not a big build, but a muscular, sinuewy one (its actually so bad that i am EMBARRASED to wear tank tops and short sleeves and am NOT looking forward to warm weather) so it looks perfect on me personally. if i had size 5''s and a little less toughness to my arms, i would LOVE to wear just the setting you posted. i just can''t and i''m very unusual. there is so much to take into account, what looks good on your build with your personality may not look good on another, and what you like on another you may not be able to wear. definatley try things on and go with what you like on you, taking your build and personality into consideration. sounds like you did all that, i cant wait to see your ring!!!!

Hi there! I have a 2ct rb halo with the Dahnov ME1 setting. The setting is very delicate, but the ring is still fairly commanding. I have found that while I love my ring, I don''t wear it every day. I have a three stone .55 / 1.5 / .55 trellis rb ring, that I usually wear with a 1cttw 1/2 eternity band. When I got the 2 ct halo, it was an anniversary gift, and I had planned to start wearing it in place of the three stone (which was my ering). What I''ve found is that the 2 ct halo is commanding, and I don''t always wear it. The three stone, even with the 1.5 center, and two .5 sides, is much more understated for everyday wear. That being said, on depending on the occasion, or what I am doing, I will wear the 2ct halo with a band, on my left hand, and a 3.5 tcw cocktail ring on my right - but not every day.

Even given the social circle thing, the fact that my husband and I are both established professionals, and our age (early 40''s), I still sometimes feel like it''s a little much for everyday wear, and opt for the three stone instead.

I don''t know if this helps or not.... You could always consider a 1.5 rb halo, which would certainally be commanding, but make it more wearable for every day?

Just a thought! Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I have a 2ct in a halo that is fairly new. I am still getting used to it but it doesn't look too big to me. I m a size 6. (I'll be doing a SMTR thread soon, just took pics this morning!)

Edited to add: Golly sorry for the huuuge pic! I'm not sure why or if I can fix it...

Here it is a bit smaller...

I know I could pull off a 2 ct halo.

I think this decision has nothing to do with other people''s opinions, and everything to do with you--what do you love, and with what are you comfortable?

I also second the advice to take your time, and to try on an actual 2 ct halo ring.

But since you asked, I really wanted a halo when we first started looking for my engagement ring, and we were looking for a huge yellow sapphire to halo, so it would have been big. However, after trying on more halos than I care to admit, I decided that I wanted something that looked more like a traditional ering, so I went with a 2 ct cushion diamond set in an eternity band. I do not, however, thing big equals flashy, gaudy, or gauche. I think those things have far more to do with attitude and behavior, than with the things you own.

If you love the halo, and you want (and can afford) a 2ct RB, go for it, honey! And then post lots of pics.
