Hi Ladies! I have been a MASSIVE lurker on this site for years and I am extremely jealous of your lovely sparkles!

I recently had a new engagement ring (long story, but a princess diamond cracked in my 12 stone pressure set ring of 3 quads :(( ) and rather than try to get something similar I went for en entirely different style - a pear diamond solitaire. It is a stunning stone, D colour, VS2, 1.02 carats & I absolutely love it despite it not feeling as precious yet as my original ring. When I bought the diamond I wasn't wearing my full eternity, which I have always worn between wedding band & engagement ring. The setting we chose was perfect, but it doesn't sit with my eternity without all the claws grinding each other. My local jeweller made a 2mm spacer to accommodate the settings together, but I don't like the look of them & hate wearing 4 rings stacked - my finger feels strangled. I am currently wearing them eternity first, then wedding ring, then pear, but I am not terribly comfortable removing my wedding band each morning & evening. Prior to this issue I had never, ever removed my wedding band, not even for childbirth!

I am looking at having the pear re-set into more of a cathedral style setting. Can you show me your pear settings please, including a profile shot? My eternity sits proud off my finger for 2.9mm, so I will need a setting that site 3mm high before the claws make any appearance :? Have any of you had similar problems? and how did you resolve it, apart from a spacer?

Huge thanks for your help :))

Ooh, thank you so much for bezel idea! It never even crossed my mind actually, nor my jewellers obviously, as I had a lengthy appointment with them 2 weeks ago & the designer was sort of scratching her head about what to do?! Maybe I need a new jeweller :D

I have Googled some bezel settings and they look perfectly high enough to clear my eternity. Does a bezel detract from the diamond? Ladies who have a bezel - do you love it? Does your stone still blind with its sparkle?? I don't know anyone with a bezel setting to have a good prod & poke at!

Unfortunately you are about 2 weeks early or I could be of some assistance. I am having my pair set in a bezel halo. Of you look though these forms they say that a bezel, if done right, it shouldn't have that much effect on the light performance. Though I had asked specifically for pears and they couldn't say exactly- sense they usually deal with rb's and pears have lots of light leaks. I would go over to the SMTB forum and look at the helpful links folder. I think there is a slew of bezels in one of those links. The only think I would say would be to make sure it's high enough that the eternity band doesn't touch the stone either. :errrr:

Thank you both for the links. The bezel is certainly food for thought. Can't believe my rubbish jeweller never even offered it up as an option?! Perhaps she's not comfortable setting in a bezel or something

In the meantime I shall also continue my hunt for high cathedral style settings too, as I'm not completely confident the bezel wouldn't then leave my diamond vulnerable to scratching on the claws of the eternity underneath, which would be even worse than the claws grinding

The diamond could scratch the metal, but the metal couldn't scratch the diamond. The PS vendors have many gorgeous solitaire options.
I'm sure they could customize the height of the head on the ring if given the dimensions of your band. I had that done with my setting and it was a very easy process. I do recommend you consider purchasing your setting from a PS vendor. When I was searching for my setting none of the local shops I visited seemed to understand how to make my band & ering sit together properly. All were showing me stock settings at an overinflated price.
My setting was purchased thru Pearlmans, the customer service and communication was excellent and the price they quoted was by far the best on the designer setting I chose. All I had to do was send pictures of the band along with exact height & width measurements. This was communicated to Sholdt via Pearlmans and they adjusted the ering accordingly. There wasn't even an extra charge. Here's link to Pearlmans: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/ They carry an amazing amount of settings. Enjoy!

Why not get a thinner spacer? Also, size up the ER and wedding band a tad. I wear 4 bands, so I guess I like the look!!

Thanks ladies for your input - it is hugely appreciated.

Neilseel - did you get your reset back yet?

My husband & I had an appointment with the jeweller who we bought the diamond from yesterday, to discuss settings. We spent a very long time looking at options, and eventually decided on a wider, higher shank, with round brilliants down the shoulders, setting the pear higher but also tweaking the back 2 claws (I wear point towards the fingertip, so it is always going to be the back claws they get a hammering next to my eternity) to scoop them upwards before they jutt out. I'm super excited but will have to wait around 4 weeks until the ring is made, but I shall post a pic in Show Me The Bling when I get my mits on it :))

Oh Alex I'm so glad you came up with a work around for your ring dilemma.
My ring will be done in 2 DAYS!!!! I'm dripping with excitement. Unfortunately it's the same day my 4 month old has to get some booster shots- so it's really a win/ loose kind of day. There will be pics galor in the SMTB so don't worry. You can live vicariously though me until your setting is finished ;)

Can wait to see yours

Yuk! Hope the booster shots aren't too stressful :((

I have always sent my husband to do the needle thing with my 2 girls. Mummy waits at home to administer big cuddles & a treat

Shall be on SMTB absolutely in two days to check your pretty out! Hope you don't go demented in the meantime. The waiting is shocking

If I were you I would wear the eternity band on my right hand especially since its not your wedding band.

Well good news is my little lady only cried for 30 secs after her shot (smiled at the nurses when they left the room, what a sweetheart!)

Bad news is now I have to wait till tomorrow for my ring!!! Gah I hate this jeweler. Thank god I had my stone sent to Ritani and didnt buy the stone from them. They pretended like they said the 9th the whole time, when I had emailed them with the email history RIGHT THERE! Said 8th and everything!!

Do you have a picture of what your setting will look like? Id love to see any examples.

I have no pics, sadly. You'll have to wait with baited breath! It was a hash up of a couple of rings settings they already had with some sketches & tweaks. I'm super excited though!

Glad your little one was a superstar :sun:

Am off to check out SMTB right now to see if you've posted....
