So beautitul!!!!!

I love aquariums!
A lot of work, but it's so relaxing to just sit and watch it.
I've had one almost continuously since my first c.1966.

I breed what they call red guppies - though they're actually orange.
If you pick only the best ones for breeding your line gets better and better over time.

Really looking forward to seeing pics!! Final thing I did before closing the hobby several years ago was breeding guppies! So much fun to see them grow. I was unfortunately not that successful, most of mine died too early. I had a separate tiny tank for the babies too but I never got the filter to work ok in that small tank.

If I get tired of the discus I will probably do guppies again. Do you have any advice for me to be more successful a second time?

Well because of this forum actually I went out and bought a bigger tank. Thanks for that PS, like I need another hobby to sink money into. I used to have half a dozen tanks running but have promised the partner that I will limit the mania this time. I would love to have Discus (or cichlids or, maybe even piranhas) but my place isn't big enough for their tank needs. Maybe I can set up a small 50l for a puffer, they are so cute. I'm maxed out on space with the ADA 90p 188litres. Planted it 2 weeks ago. And am running it low tech for now. I dose liquid carbon while waiting for my CO2 components to be delivered. Just blue neo shrimp, dwarf Corydoras, neons, cardinal tetras (I made a mistake at the Lfs and bought them thinking they were the neon) 20201122_213727.jpg 20201122_213858.jpg , microrasbora maculata (I only have 2 left because I killed the others with my stupid surface skimmer ). And yes, that IS a ladies stocking covering the intake. I wasn't prepared to let my last two microrasbora be sucked into the filter. There is still a lot that needs to be done/bought since I just reused a lot of old kit. But this is an expensive hobby. I would have loved to buy lots of java fern and more interesting plants, but ran out of money!

Whoa!! Those plants.

I have never seen planted tank like that IRL! What is your secret? Are those baby tears? How do you manage to grow those low plants?

I am a complete newbie re plants in aquariums, never used to have them. I have only recently learnt about injecting co2, but my tank is still low tech. I started using liquid co2 a couple of months ago. I also for the first time in my life started giving plant fertilizer. Never realized that was necessary. Changed the light recently too and the plants started growing like crazy. But I am still only using easy beginner plants... I have killed many many plants, but the ones I currently have seem to survive. Although the invasive snails like to eat them.

Haha I agree re getting new hobbies. Sometimes I think I need a second and third aquarium. But then I remember how crazy things can get. And I promise myself to only have one. But maybe I need one more for quarantaine. And one for babies.... Aaahh No, only the One.

The money I sank into this hobby...

Setup my first 29 gal saltwater tank in late 70, then got into the Discus hobby in 80's, then had a 240 gal saltwater tank in the early 90's, then sold it and bought a 180 gal for my Arowana and now this 180 gal is empty with no fish.

In 1967 I remember my grandma bought 2 wild caught green discus for $60. The two discus was kept in a 55 gal S/S framed glass tank. Any Psers old enough to remember those tanks?

More money in this hobby than in jewels??

Ha, this tank is only 2 weeks old and is my first foray into true scapeing. I have done layered substrates and planted tanks before but never to this extent. So... I am counting on about half of it dying and gunking up the tank with algae. I have a UV filter/light running and the gimmicky twinstar ioniser set up, but really don't have high hopes for some of the plants in there. No baby tears but a patch of glossostigma front middle/right, and a ton of montecarlo on the right. I have 6 different bottles of fertilisers that I syringe dose... because the generic all in one wasn't enough. It IS crazy how the ferts really do make a noticeable difference. I will post an 'after' pic once they have all died .

I literally have a gem filled fish tank.
these are Lalique fish in a fish tank also made by Lalique. The different fish sitting on the bottom is a Sabino fish.
The little stalks light up with LEDs.
Cute.
low maintenance and no fatalities to date ha ha.
excuse the background, that’s the “dog fence”.

How beautiful is that! Looks like it should be in a muesum!
