I am considering purchasing the above diamond. I am wondering if you would please give me your thoughts?
1. Is the black around the perimeter from "obstruction" at the time of photo or is it something else?
2. It is my inderstanding that a Gcal 8X stone has a minimum of 93% light return...so what's up with
what looks like possible light loss in the brilliance image?
3, Is there any cause for concern with the lower girdle feather? If I have located it correctly,
I think is just above the 3 o'clock arrow near the girdle...right?
4. Do you think this is worth purchasing? The price is right! It is a .9 on the HCA, GIA Excellent and AGS 0.

Hi, 4Sophie!

1. Probably from 3-4° of crown digging.
2. May very be indications of slight light leakage.
3. No concern with the feather.
4. Not to my eyes...I see some CVD graining and clouding under the table.

...given all the nitpicks, I wouldn't recommend this diamond. Too many issues and too many other diamonds to pick from out there waiting to be discovered.

This one looks better. No worries with the feather. Still a small amount of painting/digging but not as much as the other stone.

Some of the 8X stones have HCA scores of .6 to .9....I am wondering if the stones will go dark? Usually those stones have pavilion angles of 40.6 with depth% of less than 61. Do you think it is a good idea to stay away from these proportions? I am not really looking for perfect...just something nice. Do you think the 36/40.6 with 16% crown height in the second stone will be nice or should I keep looking? 16% is very high! I can certainly spend double the money..that's not the issue. I do seem to prefer the videos with 56,57 tables and depth over 61.3....with 34.5/40.8, and I do prefer Gcal stones because of the images and details....a lot of info on 1 page. Thoughts?

For tightly cut stones, I wouldn't be concerned about HCA under 1. There are some combinations that will result in more than desirable obstruction, but the ones you've posted should be fine. I do personally prefer crown angles between 34-35.5, and 34.5/40.8 is my favorite combo as well.

80% is within what most super ideal cut vendors have as their parameters for LGF, so it's totally fine.

My only concern would be the striations and the cloud under the table, though a VS1 should probably be okay without magnification.

At this size, it's very easy to find a well cut HPHT in your price range. I found a few for you to take a look at.

Thanks for your suggestions...I will keep searching and look these up. I like the Gcal because of the completeness of the images and dimensions including star and lower girdle facets..... The symmetry image is as good as an asset image so one can tell a lot.
I find it difficult to ascertain anything from the vertical type of images on the stones you suggested. It would see that many prefer HPHT stones here....why is that?

Kim, You ar3 so very kind! I have stayed away from the best color because I am afraid that the stone will look fake if it is so white.....
I have not seen enough (only 5/6 ) lab diamonds to be a good judge of whether or not the will look real. Have you seen many? Do they look real at D,E, F color??? Thank you so much!!!!!

I have seen a lot of lab diamonds and also natural diamonds. The lab diamonds I've seen have looked identical to natural. Some people don't like the icy whiteness of colorless diamonds. Have you seen colorless diamonds in person before?

NO, I don't believe I have ever seen D or E before....I don't live in a bid metropolitan area which is why I think the colorless diamonds might be more noticed as "different" and possibly be regarded as "fake". I'm also curious as to the "arrows" always showing up....do they?

A good colorless diamond will still show as silvery under most direct indoor lighting conditions.
Indirect/shaded will show as icy white/brilliant with the crackling scintillation action.
Really is a sight to behold.
