Is there anyone that can tell me how to find out what this diamond will approximately appraise for???

http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=3033666&ref=PS622

The thing is, I found a ring that I was going to buy and had practically sent the money, but then found out about this site. The ring that I was going to buy is at the following site:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4936237257&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

The problem is, I found out from this site that most people didn''t recommend purchasing this ring because of the depth of the center diamond. It''s a VS2, H color, and the center stone is 1.02 carats. But the depth of the diamond is 82.9% and the measurements are 5.21 x 5.04 x 4.18. So I looked for loose diamonds with a better depth and came across the one listed above. It''s only .90 carats, with the same clarity and color, but actually has measurements of 5.60 x 5.35 x 3.84 and a depth of 71.8%.

So now I''m trying to compare the two center stones. The whole ring from ebay supposedly appraises for $10,720 and I''m trying to figure out which diamond would be the better deal/ better decision. I know that the one from ebay will look smaller than 1.02 carats, but would it still appraise for more. I can''t spend more than $3,300, and the guy from ebay offered it to me for $3,180. If I did buy the loose diamond from "dirt cheap diamonds", it would cost me $2,700 with little room left to get the setting I want.

I guess what it boils down to is this... I know that the depth is high and that the diamond will look smaller than 1.02 carats, but is it still a good buy for my price range?

Please Help.... I''m stressed out and going to be purchasing in the next couple of days!

Honestly, I just need some advice on whether the ring from ebay, regardless of it''s depth is a good buy for that kind of money, or if I could do better if I keep looking.

Very few people on pricescope will recommend buying a diamond off ebay... You will end up with a much nicer stone from the vendors listed on this site. Why are you so concerned with the appraisal value? The $10,720 you quoted from ebay means next to nothing (they are typically highly highly inflated), other than your insurance might be higher if you chose to insure your ring.

okay. please. do. not. buy. that. ebay. ring.

please? i believe i might be begging you.

first of all, the stone is not just deep, it's absurdly deep. and so not only will it LOOK smaller than it should, but IMO with that depth it will probably LOOK crappy too. and not only THAT, but others have already chimed in to tell you that they and others have had bad experiences with that seller. why, why, oh WHY would you ever risk buying that not-so-nice stone from that company? especially with so many trustworthy sellers to buy from here?

as for the appraisal value--who cares what it appraises for? you should be worried about what you're paying, and about getting the best stone possible for that amount. plus, if i were you i'd put about zero stock in what that ebay seller claims the ring appraises for. he's trying to sell it to you--do you think he has a little bit of an incentive to inflate the figure?

my vehement recommendation is to forget you ever ran across that ebay ring and make your purchase elsewhere--from one of the pricescope vendors, or from a local jeweler that you trust. that way you will KNOW what you're getting (not so with that uncertified ebay stone) and that you're not going to get screwed.

i said this before and i'll say it again: you are going to get what you pay for. period. if the DCD stone stretches your budget too much, then consider going down in size or compromising a little bit on color or clarity.

i'm sorry if i sound harsh, but i really think you should stay away from that ebay ring. good luck.

I am a consumer. I can understand your dilemma but only an independent appraiser who inspects the diamond would be able to say if the ebay diamond ring would appraise for $10,000 + and an appraiser will also cost you about $100+. I do think that appraising a diamond prior to purchase is money well spent though.

OK- I''m in a bad mood b/c I''m still at work..so please forgive the tough love which I am full of today.
Even if that ebay stone IS what it''s supposed to be...and if it is, I''ll eat my shorts...Ummm, it''s a piece of monkey crap. That thing is going to be so dead. Yikes. Sorry

p.s. the dirtcheap isn''t so hot either. Sorry.

IMO, what matters is how much it sparkles, not how much it appraises for. To get maximal sparkle, you need a good cut. And neither of these are well cut- too deep. Listen to MMM and Reena, they know their stuff.

I''m sure if you post your budget, you will get at least 5 potential stones that are better buys. Good luck
