Hello everyone I’m in desperate need of your help .
I purchased a diamond stone with the below specifications :
Depth :61.4%
Table: 61%
Crown angle :32.5%
Crown height:12.5%
Girdle:slightly thick
Pavilion angle:41.8%
0.80ct,VS2,G color
The stone is graded triple excellent on the GIA report , but it scored 6 on the HCA .
I have bought the stone from a well known jewelry store, and I have exchanged it 2 Times now , I’m just little shy to go exchange it for the 3rd time . My question is , shall I keep the stone one or shall exchange it again ??!!

Do you have the option of returning it for a refund?

No ,I can only exchange within 30 days of purchase , does the stone look that bad ??!

You want a stone that scores below a 2 with HCA. I’d definently exchange it.

I would return.

There are two primary reasons. First it falls into a category of what we call a 60/60 stone. This means the table & depth are both equal to 60. Yours is actually more like a 61/61 technically but it is going to exhibit the same characteristics of a 60/60 stone. Basically it should have a lot of brilliance, but it will lack some of the fire (when the stone is cut well).

In addition to dealing the 60/60 style, the ring just doesn't have complimentary crown & pavilion angles so the stone isn't well cut and won't have the fire that most people seek. Below is a chart I've drawn on with your specific data. It lands in EX but realistically the bigger box is where it could be and it's an EX/VG at best. This is why it's hitting an HCA score of around 6.

EX = Excellent
VG = Very Good

The problem is that you want to be in the pink area, or Ideal. Stones that land in the EX categories are not really excellent at all.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The good news is that if you return and have to keep working with the same vendor, then we can help you pick a better stone. While many GIA XXX will have similar results, there are good ones and we know how to find them.

Yeah, a few posts showed up while I was typing my response. She can't get her money back but it sounds like she can exchange. With that in mind, I'd exchange for a better stone. We will still use the same criteria and method to find a better replacement.

OP, when you ask your jeweler to exchange the stone, ask him what he has available with the following characteristics:

Table = 54-57%
Depth = 60-62.3%
Crown Angle (CA) = 34-35 degrees
Pavilion Angle (PA) = 40.6-40.9 degrees

If limited to GIA stones then ask for XXX certification. If he has any AGS stones, ask for an Ideal 0 cut and preferably a 000 certification.

I will definitely do that , thanks a lot for your input appreciate it :(2

I didn't really get a chance to touch on the emotional side of this purchase. I am sure it's a pain in the rear to do another return and a little hurtful to hear some of this information.

I am very sorry you are having to experience this and I wish I could change this for you. While I can't undo the past, we can help you with the future and whatever you may be feeling now will soon be forgotten once you get that new sparkly diamond on your finger!

If you don't mind me asking, who is the jeweler?

It was purchased from a local jeweler in Dubai named Cara Jewelry, not well known outside .
