Whatever those "shoulder" things are with 3 tips going into the head of the setting are FANTASTIC!
WTF are you talking about?
Well, you seem to have very strong views about David's ethics as it relates to alleged copying of designs. I was just curious about your own ethics and your own views, i.e. many folks will purchase Jewelry from out of state where tax is not collected at the time of purchase, but then neglect to disclose the purchase on their state tax returns and pay the usage tax. That's all
Just to be clear, I'm not lecturing anyone, was just asking you a question to gauge your own level of ethics. I will admit that I myself am getting my girl's ring sent out of state to avoid paying sales tax, and have no plans to pay usage tax on it. I will have no problem sleeping at night. Therefore I am the last person to judge and lecture anyone about ethics. You have implied alleged plagiarism in your posts, so curious why you feel tax evasion is any less unethical than plagiarism? Remember, tax evasion is what took down Al Capone. That's all. Just something to think about maybe. People will argue that most people do not pay the usage taxes on their pieces, and I imagine jewelers will argue that copying other designs with small changes is widespread. Not going to opine on whether its justifiable or not, and I am certainly not going to judge.
You will be helping me design my next ring lol. These look great!@Maisie Sorry I’m slower getting back to you here. My hair appt last night didn’t allow for as much doodle time as I thought.
There have been several more ideas/suggestions posted since yesterday, so I’m just gonna start with a top-down view, and I can change out what you like/don’t like and keep trying different things, then we can move on to the gallery.
Octagonal bezel shown askew as well as straight with a variation of the EW ring as shoulders:
And again with ‘petal’-style shoulders:

My favorite too! What about adding that straight line of stone like the EW? Or do you want the shank to start at the split?Oooh! How fabulous!!! I love the last one!!!![]()

@the_mother_thing - I bow to your art-fu!
The marquise could be bezel or gypsy set - in this application its really about what works for the setter. Little diamonds in this kind of setting and where they would be will not need babying. All the diamonds you are using will be bezel or elevation-protected. But, you need to love this. If you eliminate the diamonds, it would be nice to add texture where there were diamonds.I love the idea of the marquise diamonds on the side! I wonder if they could be bezel set.
Does anyone how the brushed finish wears over time. I really love it but I’m not sure if it’s something that needs to be redone.
