Please Help with New Setting design

Saw this and thought of you, it sort of combines the gallery and the bezel into a single thing. I thought it showed well how a round diamond could look sitting in a subtle octagon.

Well, I just found an octagonal halo with a the gallery not separated into 8 segments. This one appears to have a round base, but I would want a doughnut added below it.

Thats pretty! I really like how the basket tapers at an angle. Does that even make sense lol!

That is beautiful! Does that have prongs? My eyes aren't what they used to be lol!

Yep, doughnut/base of head is usually is the shape of the top bezel or halo.

You've got 8 very tiny sections of gallery. The #3 ring has 4 sides for that gallery design, so you'd have half the size for each segment. I don't know how large your center stone is, but I think you may need a smaller design in the gallery sections.

@Maisie this was my thought/concern as well. The gallery you like is based on a square-ish shape, whereas your ring setting/bezel will be octagonal. I’m sure DK can work a floral type basket into the mix; I’m just not good at 3D drawing at all to render one.

One idea that popped in my head though - and I think it makes the overall ring more cohesive - would be to mimic those same shoulder cutouts in the gallery. This is a poor example (I don’t mean for them to flare out on the sides) but hopefully you get my drift. :D

The side view of my ring. The rings come further down my finger than I would have liked. In retrospect this is the one thing I would have altered:

Are you talking about the cuffs (in red circle)?

Its very pretty! Is there anything you could do to change that now? Or are you happy to live with it?

Thanks Maisie. I don't think there is anything I could do to change it now. I might upgrade the AVR for a larger stone and then do a setting more in keeping with my taste and suited to my small finger size. We're selling a country house, we have been doing up for over a year - possible funds! Both my daughters have larger hands than me and one of them could put a coloured stone in it sometime down the track.

The relevance to your thread with all this, is how easy it is to overlook one component in design and somehow it throws out the look you were hoping to achieve. I remember Neil, who has a knack for finding second-hand settings saying she is so much more accepting of a setting that comes just as it is over one that has been custom made, where somehow one notices and is less tolerant of all its shortcomings.

I admired Sledge and the detail he went into to get the design and quality of his fiance's ring just right. I hope yours, with the help of everyone here, works out well too.

Yes the_mother_thing the cuffs (circled) come too low on my size 4 finger. Not a happy look.

@Maisie, I think it may have both. I was a little behind in the thread and saw where you weren't sure if your stone could be bezeled. I thought since the inspiration ring referenced antique rings I have seen elsewhere this one might help bridge the gap. *blushes* I should have gotten up to date prior to posting. :errrr:

:wavey: @Maisie If you are hooked on that gallery (the Victor Canera ring you posted w/the square-shaped stone), perhaps consider/show David this other VC ring, which has a similiar floral gallery but is for an octagonal shaped stone/bezel. I’m sure David could do something similar & add engraving to the gallery on each side of the floral design. Also note that the donut in this example is also octagonal shaped.

I love that setting! I will definitely use it as reference!

I don't have anything specific to add- but recently went through this process with DK myself for my e-ring reset (which has a hexagon pronged bezel.)
I know that he/Amy found it helpful when I marked up pics of rings- circling the elements I liked from specific rings and blocking out the parts I didn't like.
I found it helpful to separate my inspo images into folders for each ring element- so I had a folder for shoulders and shank, one for basket, one for prongs/bezel, etc. It's so easy to get overwhelmed by all of the beautiful options out there, it really helped me to organize my pics like this in order to conceptualize my ring.

@dtnyc I absolutely agree with you. I save all my ideas and inspiration photos on my iPhone. I should really make folders for each element. It would definitely help when I’m trying to find something I saved in between cute grand baby photos!

I sent my ideas to DK and am waiting for the CADs. I will soon see if my basic instructions were clear or not lol!

My phone has a ton of and kid pics (I have 4 and the youngest is only 18 months ) and ring photos on my phone- I get it!

I enjoyed the process with DK and company, but it was something I was anxious to do for YEARS- seriously I had 2 babies and Moved houses between my first quote from him and finally pulling the trigger!

I felt anxious going with a new vendor. I had worked with Whiteflash, Brian Gavin and Wink Jones. I had heard such great things about David Klass I just went for it. And I’m glad I did!
