Hi everyone...

So Leon is currently in the process of making my e-ring. The stone is a 2.68 ct RB and the setting will be a twisted split shank solitaire in pave - each ''half'' of the shank will be about 2 mm but will taper a bit.

I thought that I was a definite size 5.5, but lately I''ve begun to doubt myself. I actually bought a cz ring in a 5.5 (a three stone) just to ''test'' the size. When my hands are cold the ring is a little loose but does not risk falling off at all, but when my hands are swollen the ring is a bit tight (although I can still get it off and on with relative ease). I know that a 6 would be too big, so what I''m really debating is whether I should go for a 5.75 or a 5.5? I''ve tried a 5.5 ring sizer on several times and have been told by several jewelers that it seems *right*, but I have not tried on a 5.75. I''ll try to do that today.

My questions are:

1) given my stone and the solitaire design is it better to err on the side of tighter in order to keep the ring from spinning?

2) do you think that I would find a 5.5 way too tight in the summer when it''s warmer and my fingers are a bit larger? (it''s -30 C. here now!)

3) how much difference will wearing a wedding band with the ring make? I''ve heard that this makes it fit tighter?

4) is it easier to size a pave ring up or down? Should I err on the side of bigger or smaller?

I also plan to have children within the next couple of years and am worried about what my hands / fingers will do then, but I figure I need to get it right for the size of my finger *now* rather than peering into a crystal ball!

Any feedback would be most appreciated - I''m making myself crazy trying to figure this out!! Thanks!

I have struggled with size myself. I had my 3 stone made in 4.5, which was very snug, and fit well on, but was hell to get off. I lived with this for a month or so until I finally had it sized to 4.75. Now, it is perfect (although when my hands are cold - like today!!! - it is a little loose, but not at risk of falling off).

Now, pave might be a problem with sizing. Not sure. Don''t have any.

I would say that my finger swells and shrinks about a 1/4 size, depending on the weather. My original e-ring was a 4.75 but was decently loose when my hands were cold. When I re-set my stone, I ordered a 4.5, but the shank on the Ritani is significantly thinner than my original Scott Kay solitaire (and I don''t wear a w-band with it just because I never got around to ordering one). I definitely think that with a wider shank (and then when you add on a 2nd band) the rings wear a little tighter.

I have had two kids and my ring size didn''t change during either pregnancy, but everyone is different and I know some women experience more swelling / fluid retention. I think it''s going to come down to what you''re more comfortable with...if you go with the 5.5, it may be a little tighter in the summer...with the 5.75, a little looser in the winter. Or you can go in between and have Leon size the ring a 5-5/8. I think LE recently had her Leon solitaire sized a 4-5/8.

I would size it a little bigger...You are the same size as me (my e-ring is a sz 5.5)....but when we bought my pave w-band, I got it in a 6, which is slightly more loose, but its fine. My fingers shrink and swell depending on what I eat, the weather, etc. If the sz 5.5 ring is a litte tight on you sometimes, I would have Leon make it a little bigger (5.75). There is nothing worse than having rings that are unconfortable/ too tight on your finger, IMO.

I agree. I''d rather mine be a little loose than too tight. And I will tell you that most people do not stay the same size over a lifetime. So I would ask Leon to leave you a sizing area just in case. And I would ask him to make it a little more than 5.5 (which is my ring size, too!).

I *hate* having tight rings. I would size the ring according to what size your finger is when swollen. Though it might depend on what climate you live in.

There is no way to get a perfect sized ring. If it''s a little loose in the cold and a little tight in the summer, then that''s probably as good as it''s going to get. If you don''t like your rings tight you could order a 5.75 and then put a horseshoe sizer in the inside to expand when your finger is big and tighten to fit when your finger is smaller.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I''m still somewhat torn, but am leaning towards seeing if I can get a 5 5/8. I''m a little worried that if I go up to a 5.75 that it might be able to slip right off when my hands are very cold or wet. I''ve been all over town and I can''t find a single jeweler with a 5.75 sizing ring, which doesn''t help my trepidation!!

The width of the shank plays a factor in determining size. Also, as you mentioned, wearing a wedding band with the ring will make it fit tighter. You should probably contact Leon about this matter, he might suggest the 5 5/8. Good luck!
