Happy Sunday, PSers....Can someone advise me how to determine the clarity of lab grown diamonds without the picture of the diamond plotting the inclusions. Im interested in this VS1 diamond but how can I tell if there is a serious inclusions/haziness/cloudiness without the plot? I can't see anything in the actual picture of the diamond but I'm not trained in looking at these. Can someone advise on this? Thanks so much in advance. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...olor-vs1-clarity-true-hearts-cut-sku-12831144

You're looking at a VS1, so any inclusions are likely to be microscope in actual size.
That being said, the one you linked is a G with blue nuance/light blue, which means there is boron present resulting in a Type IIb diamond.

If you'd like some assistance to find a great diamond from JA, just list out what you're after;

1. Max budget for the loose diamond.
2. Minimum carat weight (or diameter, if you're shopping that way).
3. Goal: brilliance, fire, or balanced?

Here's a beautifully proportioned 0.89 E VS1 with no blue nuance that would be considered "balanced" for $10 less - either snatch it up or put it on to think on it for a while so someone else doesn't buy it out from under you.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your feedback and for pointing out the blue. I am looking for a very sparkly diamond, one with rainbows...not sure if that is fire or brilliance. I've heard that sometimes small inclusions even in a VS1 could affect the light return which is why I'm questioning why there is no diamond plot or any comments about the clarity. I'm looking for diamonds around 0.75 for a pendant and 1.0 each for earrings. Thank you again!

I looked at the cert on the original diamond I picked. It says fluorescence NONE. Is that where I would look for the blue tint or is that not disclosed on the cert for lab diamonds. Thank you again for your assistance. I'm utterly clueless!

The rainbow/colored flashes is fire. What you'll want to look for is a pavilion angle of 40.6-40.8° (even as shallow as 40.5°) paired with a slightly steeper crown angle between 34.5-35° (even as steep as 35.5, perhaps even 36°) and a slightly taller crown height 15-15.5%.

Here's the page showing the ideal proportions chart and member recommended ranges:

You won't need to worry with VS1 grades. It was a concern with some labs (even IGI of old), but those unscrupulous labs are either defunct or will be quickly called out by PS'ers to avoid.
Have a look at the links in my signature: they are for my wife's 1.69 E SI1 that's completely eye-clean and no impact to light return and performance.

Here's the PS link that goes in-depth for VS clarity grades:

When it is disclosed, it'll be stated in the comments section. Although, it can be undisclosed across the entire color range, including colorless. In that case, you'll have to look for good pictures/videos which will allow you to identify the unnatural steely-blue or steely-gray appearance. James Allen is, thankfully, a seller that has adequate visuals which allow easy identification of Type IIb lab grown diamonds.

Here's one that you would want to seriously consider, since it will definitely fall into the fiery range:

For a real-world example about clarity, here's a 2 carat E SI1 (post #524 in the link below) that I helped a gentleman find, which he ended up buying for his upcoming proposal. Small needle inclusion under the crown which can't be seen just due to the sheer amount of light performance and fire.

Forgot to post the proportions diagram in the last post for the 2.05 E SI1:

Thanks so much. I'm going to get the diamond you recommended as a pendant. Im a little worried of using a JA chain. They seem so delicate. Is there an on-line shop you can recommend for a setting.

TY!

You're very welcome, and I think you're making a great choice on the diamond! Don't forget to contact JA and put it on hold.

I have read some other posts about the seemingly delicate nature of the JA chains, so it may be worthwhile to contact Whiteflash, Distinctive Gem, Victor Canera, and Diamonds by Lauren as a starting point? I'm hoping other may pop in here to give some other recommendations for thicker/stronger chains.
There's always the option to try and find a titanium chain and pendant, if you're looking for toughness as the primary function.

Thank you. So a local jeweler can usually set a loose diamond and a pendant setting?

Many will, but some will not: best to call/email/visit and confirm what their policies are.

Thanks...I went ahead and purchased that diamond.
