Hello everyone,

I recently bought an engagement ring and I have a question about it. Basically, the cut and clarity that were quoted to me are not the cut and clarity described in the appraisal. While I'm very happy with the ring, I'm considering calling the jewler to discuss this discrepancy, but I'm not sure if this is a common thing or not. Basically, here are the details.

THE RING: I had a .43 point center stone already from a family ring, and I added that to a halo setting with side diamonds going down a double shank. .8 points of side diamonds.

THE QUOTE: When I negotiated the price with the jeweler, I was told the side diamonds would be F color and VS clarity.

THE APPRAISAL: The description of the right in the appraisal says the side diamonds are g/h color and SI clarity.

My question is - should I call the jeweler and raise a fuss about this? Like I said, I'm happy with the ring, but I don't like the idea of being told one thing and getting something else. And I'm not sure how much those differences in color/clarity would make to the value of the ring.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Since they are small melee stones it isn't likely to make much difference in the value of the ring. 1 grade difference in appraisal is an acceptable margin of error but that usually applies to larger stones. This could well be within the limit as the overall grade of the stones could have been F VS while some might be H SI2. You could always talk to your jeweler and see what he has to say but I personally don't feel it's way out of line but I'd also have to see the ring.

The difference is so close I don't really feel like you could make a fuss, 1 grade on each account and as this poster said ^ with melee stones the price difference wouldn't be enough to worry about it.

Good to know, thanks for the help!
