Hello,

I just got my e-ring from UnionDiamond.com. The diamond is 0.72 Carat ( E, VS, ideal cut) , looks beautiful with my un-trained eye. The setting is a tiffany style solitaire platinum setting. I have seen a picture from this forum which looks very nice, this is also a reason that I want to buy from UnionDiamond.

When I looked at the side of this ring , it seemed that this diamond was not "sitting" on this setting, but rather "hanging", since there are pretty much some space between the diamond and the lower seat of the setting. And it doesn''t have the Tiffany look, although without diamond, it looks much like Tiffany.

To be frankly, I was a little disappointed. The sales told me that this ring was "absolutely beautiful", I guess the diamond is good, not a heart & arrow but looks really sparkle. But this setting seems so awkward to me, like a kid wearing his brother''s bigger outfit...Is it because they use same size of the setting from different size of diamond? Should I just accept what it is or ask them to re-fit this ring? What should a well fitting ring with a smaller diamond looks like(if one can not customize the setting like Tiffany does)?
Here is the picture of this setting,

Thanks a lot!

There is supposed to be some space between the culet (bottom point) and the base of the setting. If there were no space, a good hit to the top of the stone could chip the culet. The notches in the sides of the prong are what hold the diamond in. Except for the small part sitting in the notches, no part of the pavillion (bottom half of diamond) should touch the prongs.

Thanks, the diamond was not sitting on the notches, the only place that this diamond touchs the notches is the Girdle, the pavillion doesn''t touch anything.

Is this normal?

And I think if this is a 1.2+ Carat diamond, it will be much fitted. Do they produce settings for different diamond size, e.g., 0.5-0.7, 0.7-0.9, 0.9-1.2..., or just one size for all ?

Thank you!

It doesn''t sound great, but it''s really hard to tell without pictures. Can you post any?

It is hard to tell without pictures, but yes, it is normal for the stone to only touch the prongs at the notches at the girdle. There is some flexibility in how high the jeweler sets it. If you want it lower, just ask. Also, yes, there are different head sizes for different diamonds.
