Hello everyone!
I have been considering purchasing this vintage ring with a ~15x7 mm (around ~5.5cts) natural sapphire which is slightly abraded and chipped (I will have it polished in case I buy it). I think it has a slight purplish color? Or maybe grey? I was wondering, what value and rate would you give to the sapphire alone assuming it is heated (treatment unkown)
Thank you so much! image.png image.png

300/ct so 1500 USD, tops, and that’s just because of its size. If it costs more, run.

Saturation is low, there’s a lot of grey, and it badly needs a recut. Unless you truly love it, which is a personal thing, I would pass.

Great! Thank you so much for the useful info!

I would look into getting a reputable lab report, because if it’s chemically treated or synthetic, it’s worth much less per carat than Vividred stated. Even if it’s only heated, that affects the price, but if untreated and natural, it’s obviously worth much more. AGL or GIA can test it.

It’s hard to say the quality from the photo. It could be worth more and have improved color with a well done recut, even if it loses a carat in weight. If it’s more violet or color shifting to a purple hue, that negatively affects the value as well, or cloudy inclusions, noticeable zoning, etc.

Hard to say, which is why I avoid corundum, unless from a highly reputable dealer.

I decided to pass on this in the end! A bit too much work with recutting etc

Are you asking for our guesses for retail values?

Just seems strange and off to me since you are a vendor?

I don’t usually buy many sapphires of this size and was looking for outside opinions with more experience in this field. Especially in regards to color.
