Hi Everyone:

I visited this forum occasionally and I just signed in because I am planning to buy a diamond online, my first time and I need your help.

I found 3 budget stones and unable to decide which one to buy and what questions to ask the vendor:

Also, how the measurements affect the diamond?

Thanks!

No obvious dog here, and as you may know from reading here...getting a reflector image of the diamonds can help confirm goodness of cut. Alternately, and in concert with that, you WILL want to ask about a return policy, and get it in writing; essentially, you'll want to be able to return your selection, no questions asked, within an acceptable period of time. Ten - 30 days is a typical range.

But so far, #2 might be the safer bet, until you learn if #3 is eye clean or not, and then decide between those two. One is nice, if either 2 or 3 lose favor, for any reason.

Best wishes,

I would ask about the flourescence on #3. Find out how it affects the diamond.

The first is a tad deep and the table on the second is a tad large.

The cut specs look nice on the third. See if it''s eye clean or prongable, also make sure the flour is not affecting light performance (it''s probably fine). Depending on what the vendor says on these things, this stone would be my pick.

I''d probably take a shot at number 3 since it is a little larger and an H with florescence should be nice! But only if it''s eye clean!

Thank you to everyone.

I was just told that #3 is eye clean. It is bigger and I like that. But I am a little concerned that it is a strong blue. I read it somewhere (may be here) should avoid strong blue diamonds.

Advise?

I would LOVE a diamond with strong blue fluorescence! Yummo! Some of them can look a little cloudy, but from the ones I''ve seen on here they''re clear and gorgeous!

It''s about 99% likely that the flour presents no problems to light performance (you should check with the vendor to make sure). However, not everyone likes the blueish look in sunlight. Some, like myself, Loooove this quality!!!

Here''s a thread that might help, and if you search for flourescence many more will come up. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/flourecence-in-a-stone.61846/

Ditto on #3, flo and all, as long as it doesn''t affect it negatively. Just ask!

Thank you for the link. It''s helpful. I am leaning towards to buy #3 and asked the vendor some questions recommended by you all. I am waitning for the response.

By the way, how about:

setting: solitaire vs sidestone - pros and cons?

Platnum vs white gold - pros and cons?

Thanks again.

I like #3 as well, echoing what everyone else has said re eye-clean. Do a search on exactly what you have written above and tons of threads will come up. Re sidestones v solitaire - what does your GF like? Sidestones add more bling factor but lots like the solitaire for an e-ring.

Good luck!

Do you know at all what type of setting she would like?

Ditto on the last two posts pertaining to what she likes.

Does she know the ring is coming, can/have you two gone window shopping to get a feel for what she likes?

If this is a total surprise, is there somone close (sister, mom, best friend) that you can talk with (and TRUST) that might know what she wants? (as girls tend to talk about these things)

If that isn''t possible, I''d probably stick with a classic solitaire to be safe. The metal would be your choice.

I read the threads and it seems platnum is a safe choice. Thank you all for your help. Once I got the ring set, I will take and picture and post it here.

Cheers,

Most girls these days do prefer white metals, so platinum probably is a good choice. Do you know what style setting she would like? We can help try to find some that fit her taste.
