Hi guys,

I'd really appreciate if you could help me out with evaluating which diamond is the best choice out of this bunch (see below 4 posts).

These are all either D/FL or D/IF graded by GIA. And they all range between a HCA score of 0.9, 1.0 and 1.1.

Looking forward to your opinions.

Thanks in advance :)

I think it's important to ask why you are choosing D/IF or D/FL? Is it due to cultural considerations, or did you GF directly say she only wanted that? I ask because a lot of times well meaning BFs think that D/IF means "the best", when in reality it doesnt. And sticking with D/IF means sacrificing size and having far fewer options, which your GF might not actually want.

I'm working on getting the IdealScope and Aset images as we speak, so I should have them within a few days.

But hopefully in the meantime you'll be able to give me some advice by looking at the above?

Thanks ;-)

What do you like best about 2 and 3, in contrast to 1 and 4? Is it the visuals and/or the cut proportions?

Also, 2 has an HCA score of 0.9 and 3 has an HCA score 1. Aren't I supposed to get an HCA score of something as near as possible to 1, but not go below 1?

1 and 4 both have an HCA score of 1.1.

Plus 1, 3 and 4 all have a crown angle of 34.5°, a pavillion angle of 40.8°, a medium girdle, while 2 has a crown angle of 34°, a pavillion angle of 40.8° and a medium to slightly thick girdle.

Any advise about the above?

Thanks again!

Cultural considerations and the wishes of my other half :)

Sure!

#1 = 1.35 ct

#2 = 1.40 ct

#3 = 1.32 ct

#4 = 1.35 ct

I'm leaning towards #1 myself :)

While the specs are basically the same, I think the faceting pattern on #3 is cleaner and prettier. I'm always a tad suspicious of diamonds when you can't see all the arrow heads at the one time. Lacks balance. I could be wrong, of course, and it could be tilted slightly off center. But I like the nice, strong pattern of #3.

On the other hand, if your partner is choosing on the basis of specs, rather than visuals, she might prefer #2, given that it's larger and the only one on the list to break 1.4ct.

If your partner hasn't seen a lot of diamonds, she probably doesn't realize that a flawless diamond and a VS2 diamond at this size, all else being equal, will look identical to the eye. The difference she can achieve in size, on the other hand, would be remarkable. Also, a lot of people find an E color blindingly white (it is), but a D - cold and hard looking. Most people, on the other hand, can't tell the difference.

I'd advise you both to go look at some diamonds at a reputable store that specializes in diamonds. I mean, if you're all about the numbers, is there some reason you're not dealing with a company of diamond specialists, like WhiteFlash, Crafted By Infinity, Brian Gavin Diamonds, Good Old Gold, or Victor Canera? Until you break into the world of super ideals, you're not really getting the best out there. The stats on the diamonds you've shown us are definitely in that range, but there's still variance, and until you've seen a few super ideals next to diamonds that...aren't...you won't be aware of the difference. And it's a difference you'll actually *see*, as opposed to your D vs E or IF vs VS2 - which you won't.

I like #3's numbers the most. You gotta look at the images to actually see how differently these actual diamonds perform. Personally I wouldn't obsess over a D/IF/FL because I can get a bigger ct. with F and VVS.

I agree with what @mrs-b said. Not to mention you'll receive superior customer service.

Just based on the specs I'd prefer #1 b/c of the higher crown at 15.5%.

BTW; till we see some pics of the hearts these stones aren't consider best of the best.

Since you didn't mention about weight. How about this 2.09 ct?

This is the largest D/IF from WF.
