I have finally decided on a stone from Whiteflash. Now I need help picking a setting.

My girlfriend wears very simple, classic jewelry. Nothing flashy. I do not want extra stones on the ring and I want the stone to look as large as possible.

From their solitaire settings, which one do you think would be the best fit?

Also, what are the pros/cons of 4 prong vs 6 prong?

These are my two favorites:

Fine Line by LE (I have this one!)

X-Prong Trellis

With this one a close third:

Legato Sleek Line

I personally like four prongs because it's less metal around the stone. Others like six prongs because it makes the diamond look more round and covers more of the stone (in case of accidents). It's really just a personal preference.

i like the four prong solitaire and the x-prong a lot, but they''re all beautiful. you can''t really go wrong with a solitaire!

Is the only difference between the Sleek Line and Fine Line the head?

That, and the SL band is 2.5mm wide vs. 3mm on the FL.

I would suggest either the SL, or the Legato SL. I like them both, for different reasons. I love the fact that you can see the whole diamond in the SL, but I like the scalloped bar on the Legato.

I like the W prong and the sleek lines. I''m also a fan of the 4 prong so you can see more diamond

My personal favorite is the Legato Sleek Line. I like the basket a lot.

Another vote for the Legato Sleek Line. I adore every ring I''ve ever seen them do with that setting. It shows off a lot of the stone, yet there''s still some interest with the scalloped basket. Very feminine and sexy, yet sleek and unfussy.

How large is the diamond?

I think that a diamond > than 1ct would look great in the x-prong and the w-prong. The FL and SL would look great with any size diamond.

You can''t go wrong with the classic Tiffany

4 or 6 prong is just a personal preference.

Good luck an welcome to PS

My favorite is the Classic Tiffany Style Knife-edge Solitaire and a close second is the Legato Sleek Lines Solitaire.

4 prong shows the diamond more but can make the round stone look squarish. 6 prongs are more secure and extenuates the roundness. Ultimately it''s your personal preference.

I am a big fan of 4-prong settings, but that''s because I prefer square stones over round, and the 4-prong settings make a round stone look more square. I''m also a sleek solitaire kind of gal. Here are my preferences of the WF solitaires:

1) Legato sleek line - the Legato head is really TDF!
2) Fine line - not as elegant as the Legato, but better than the regular head
3) X-prong
4) Comfort fit surprise diamond or Flush fit cathedral - because I''m a huge sucker for surprise diamonds!

I''m not a fan of the Tiffany-style settings.

i like flush fit and lilly, but that is just me

Hi,

The ring I''m getting my GF is a 1 Ct. marquise. The only thing she asked for was the classic knife edge Tiffany setting. She has smaller fingers and I think with the length of the marquise that the thinner ring would look better...

Good luck

Thank you to everybody that has replied!!! I really do appreciate it.

Based on all the comments, I think I''ve narrowed it down to the Sleek Line or Legato Sleek Line. The heads seem to be the biggest difference.

The SL seems to show off the whole stone better (no "basket" on the side). But, it is just the plain regular head. My stone is an AGS0 (ACA) I color. I have not seen it in person, but with such a wonderful cut, I hope it doesn''t show any yellow. But, if it does, it would probably be most recognizable from the side, not the top.

If it does have some color, would it be better to go with the Legato SL so the basket blocks some of the side view?

Assuming this is an ACA, or close, I don''t think you''re going to see much from the side either. I think the open setting will be fine. But as someone else asked, how big is the stone? The bigger it is, the more chance of seeing a slight hint of warmth.

It is an ACA. About 1.25ct RBC. With an I color, would you expect to see any yellow from the side?

Well, I can't say definitively, as everyone sees things differently, and some are more sensitive than others. But I personally wouldn't have a problem with it at that size. Not to say it's not a nice size, it is! Once you start hitting 2 cts and up is when it may be more noticeable.

I think it would be fine, but talk with WF and tell them you're fears/feelings. See what they say.

ETA You will not see yellow, ever. It might look slightly creamy, but definitely not yellow.

You won''t see "yellow", but you might see what would better be described as "warmth" especially when compared to whiter diamonds or lying on a white piece of paper. It''s not a big deal though really, and it wouldn''t influence my setting choice much. Of the final two you are considering I like the legato head a little better.

I wouldn''t consider the color from the side much when choosing your setting. An I colored diamond is still in the "near colorless" range and will look great in any setting! I''d choose the Legato because the head is so much more elegant than the regular head.

I like 4-prong and 6 prong settings equally well. I do much prefer integrated heads (vs. "peg heads") and thin shanks (as close to 2mm as possible). IMVHO, thin bands really make a diamond pop.

With a ring like that, she will have lots of options when choosing a wedding ring, and that's always fun!
