Hi there. I'm new to these boards and have been doing research as of late. Single guy trying to get un-single if you know what I mean. I've found two stones on WF and I'm torn between the two... please help me pick:

Option #1: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3016683.htm (1.211 ct ct D VVS1)

or

Option #2: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3016681.htm (1.147 ct D VVS2)

I'm sure both are great diamonds but I really need an expert opinion on whether or not the $4500 higher price tag is "worth it" for Option #1. It's slightly higher in weight and has better clarity, but is it really worth nearly 5 grand for the difference? Please note, this is the very top of my budget.

Liza from WF explained the diamonds look nearly identical in size. Should I just save and get the smaller diamond or should I go all out? It's a once-in-a-lifetime purchase after all, right?

Please help this poor guy out.

Thanks.

Both gorgeous stones, both higher quality than you need but maybe color and clarity that are important to you. If they look about the same size I would get the 1.14. I on the other hand would lower the color to F-H and clarity to SI1 and get a bigger stone.

+1. OP just so that you know a F VS2 (eye clean) is not going to look any different than the stone you picked (according to the experts). Your call at the end of the day. Enjoy the journey of picking a stone :naughty:

Oh goodness, does it have to be D VVS??? I am another who has to say, unless it is just a mental thing to need the highest color and clarity, you will not be able to see a difference in those and this:

This stone is AGS Ideal cut and is E VS1:

I'd far rather have a 1.2+ ct stone, but I just would be looking at maybe F VS1 if I wanted to stay in the colorless range and get a larger stone.

Wow, thank you for the feedback. So the color and clarity aren't as important as I thought? What about cut? Is the Cut Above by WF really worth it?

Does your lady want a diamond with high color and clarity? You probably won't be able to tell the difference between D/IF and E/VS1. You can even go down to F/VS2. VS2 and above are almost always eye clean. Cut is very important. WF'a premium select and expert selection can be a good value, but if you want a super-ideal stone, stick with the ACA line.

What I get from your D/VVS stones is that you'd like a high-color stone that is eye-clean. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Cut, regardless of other preferences, is of the utmost importance - no matter what.

Let me give you an idea of what you can get in different color/clarity combinations. These stones will all appear very 'white,' and will look the same as a VVS1/VVS2 to the naked eye.

You will be able to get a lot more stone for your money by looking at one of these:

1.511ct, E, VS2 (close to the same price as the D/VVS1)

1.563ct, F, VS2 (about $5k less expensive than the D/VVS1)

1.504ct, G, VS1 (about $6k less expensive than the D/VVS1)

So size matters?

Ok thanks everyone. I've got some more to think about...

Yes. Size matters. So does money.

You don't need D VVS.

Even the conservative shopper will be happy with F/G VS2.

That's a winner. Only one color down, but a third to almost half carat bigger than what you were looking at originally. Plus a perfect cut.
Checks all the boxes, will be icy white and stunning.

Frogbeast, are you Navy? Just curious about your name.
