Hi everyone, I would like to thank you in advance for your help.

I have an idea of what I'm looking for. The best example I can find is from Tiffany's, http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?groupSKU=GRP10015.. It's called the Novo. This is the exact ring I would like but minus about $8k from that price tag. I would really like to stay under the $5k mark for the stone and setting.

I would appreciate your advice and help in narrowing down my search. The characteristics I'm looking for would be a Cushion cut, .90-1.05 ct, G-I color, VS2-S2 clarity, good - very good cut, gia cert.

I found a ring from bluenile.com but it didn't offer much in information regarding the characteristics of the stone. I have also searched on jamesallen.com and goodoldgold.com. I have also been offered a discount at whole sale pricing from a local diamond dealer here in Seattle http://www.seattlediamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-search, I would just need help picking out the correct stone.

Once again, thank you for your time and expertise.

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

I really like the first stone you posted. It also makes me realize i'm not to big a fan of the vintage style, so modern is a good direction to go with.

I did have another question. How much does the girdle size play in to the look of the diamond. I had never heard the term before last night when I was researching. Should I look for a thin or thick girdle or does it matter?

I just found this stone at jamesallen.com http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.00-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-sku-386102 What are your thoughts? I believe they have the setting I was looking at as well and I would like to get both pieces from the same retailer. Not a fan of either I'm afraid. That setting is not going to look anywhere near the quality of Tiffany. And if you're only trying to get "close" to the quality, it won't be close, unfortunately.

That stone isn't the best, either. Let's see what we can find...

That's why i'm here, to get opinions and advice.

There is also the Legara Pave setting from Brian Gavin http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/legera-pave-platinum-5861p that I thought looked nice as well.

As far as the stone I posted from James Allen, what about it makes it less than ideal? I would just like to be able to know the things to look for when searching on my own.

Thank you

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

I don't think your budget lines up with what you are wanting though. A nice quality Novo replica is going to not be cheap, and a good cushion won't be either.

I recommend these:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/0-94ct-g-vs2-signature-modern-cushion.html

http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1ct-i-vs1-signature-modern-cushion-diamond.html

But that setting will add a couple thousand+ at least in 14k white gold and more in 18k wg or platinum.

If you need to go smaller in the diamond, this one is nice:

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

Very helpful, thank you. I would be willing to go smaller on the stone size to get the right look and right diamond. I would also be happy with the Legera Pave from BG that I posted earlier and it fits a little better in my price range.

Do you think the stone that Rocky Racoon posted 1.01ct, J, VS2 - Signature Modern Cushion
http://www.goodoldgold.com/ecommerce/1-01ct-j-vs2-signature-modern-cushion-cut-diamond.html would look good in the Legera Pave?

If you went with the Good Old Gold modern cushion, the Vatche 5th Avenue is a fine quality Novo replica. This isn't a great picture, but the rings are very comparable to Tiffany quality.

Or I pony up the extra because I do really like this combination. This might be the route that I go.

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

These are all terrific choices, really. Sometimes it is very hard to find excellent cushions, but the ones on this thread are a nice selection to choose from. J color will usually show a little bit of tint. Some people do not care at all because size is their priority, and some are more color sensitive and want a certain color range. I generally prefer I color and higher for an engagement ring, but it almost takes seeing a J stone to know for sure how you feel about it. You can always ask GOG if it is a high J or mid to low and they will tell you honestly.

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

Sorry to bring this back up but I have another question in my search. The setting is locked down, I'm going with the Legera Pave from Brian Gavin. I was able to allocate more funds for my budget and I have decided on one of the two stones listed below. Can you please help me differentiate between the two and see which would be the better value? For simplicity, getting the stone from BG would be nice but it is $800 more than the stone from GOG, which on paper seems to have better specs. Both stones were recommended by some of you in this post already.

Thank you again

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

Before I looked at the two stones, my thinking is that he needs to go with whichever one faces up the largest. And the one that faces up the largest is the BG stone at 6.4 x 5.6mm. Every bit of size helps in this size stone. So easy decision because both stones would be great otherwise!

You picked the perfect setting for it, too! The scale (size) of the setting is just right for this size stone!

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

My girlfriend has a tiny hands, ring size 3.75, i'm just hoping that this wont look too large or out of proportion. In your opinion though, it will be worth it to go with the BG stone then? I'll be making the call later today then.

Actually my decision has been made for me. The stone at BG has just been marked Reserved. Looks like I'll be getting the stone from GOG and having it shipped to BG to complete the setting.

Hey DS, do you remember if they are measured the same way? I feel like when they first came out I remember reading that BG cushions are measured corner to corner vs others that are lxw? I really can't say for sure though.

Op,

If your concerned about the size is there a reason you don't go lower? I mean, your going over budget with your current choices, but there are lots of high color .7 ish cushions at Brian Gavin that would keep you in budget, help with any size concerns you might have, and be easy because its all in one place.

I have thought about this a lot, and I'm going with the happy wife, happy life motto. While talking with my gf about what she wanted, she said she did want a 1ct stone. With my current choices, I can get closer to what she wants and not kill myself in process.

Makes sense. I just hate to see people overdo it on their budget if it really was a firm budget. Of you have wiggle room though, great. If not, maybe look into BG upgrade policy? ::)

Oh gosh, let me look back through the stones. Don't do anything yet!

Niel, I don't think AGS would measure a stone from corner to corner, so I will check the AGS report.

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

Well I've only placed a reserve on the stone from GOG, no money has transferred yet. Thank you for taking the time to review it again.

Found it. Here's a quote from Brian Gavin taken from here

How the AGSL measures Brian Gavin Signature Cushion Cuts:

When a proprietary diamond cut, such as the new, patented, Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond is first sent to a gemological laboratory for grading, the laboratory has to figure out the best way to measure the diamond to accurately and create the formulas to calculate its proportions.

While most fancy shape diamonds are measured across the diamond from edge-to-edge and from top to bottom, the AGSL determined that the best way to measure the Brian Gavin Signature Cushion cut diamond was from tip-to-tip, and then from edge-to-edge, and then from top to bottom, because of the unique design and facet structure of this diamond

That is unreal!!! Oh my gosh! No telling how small those stones are! That is deceiving and shame on AGS for doing that!!!! I will not recommend those stones EVER again because we cannot compare them to normally measured cushions!!!

Thanks, Niel! I love the H GOG cushion best of all anyway. So I hope he sees it! It is better than the .9 G and just a tiny bit more $ to get a carat!

Oh, please come back and switch diamonds, Jayson!!!!

That is great information guys. DG, I made my stone reservation at Good Old Gold. I will call them back and reserve the new stone that you recommended. I will still be looking to get the setting from BG though.

Whew! I kept clicking refresh hoping you would see it! This stone is SO pretty and is 1 ct!!! It has a pretty cut and perfect cushion shape! I actually like it best of all the stones posted on this thread! And yes, I love the BG setting, too!!!

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

Congrats on the lovely diamond selection. Please have GOG make a video of the diamond for evaluation and share it with us :)

Re: Please help me find something similar to the Tiffany Nov

You know what? We might be able to find a setting through GOG. Did you want white gold or platinum? I want you to have options to compare. Might be able to save some money.

I like this. It shows the matching wedding band, too, which could be ordered later.

I just put a deposit down on the 1.01ct stone from GOG. I am so happy with it. I might enjoy it more than my girlfriend haha.

Linda at GOG, is supposed to be emailing me some settings that are comparable to the Legera and Novella settings over at BG. Like I stated before I would like to purchase all from the same spot. Hopefully she'll have something that I like as much as the Legera. I will post the links when I get them. I wanted to go with platinum if possible but my other option was the 18k white gold.
