I am looking for an engagement ring for my girl friend whose finger size is 4.5. My budget is $4000-6000.
Want the best cut in round shape, decent color and clarity grades. I am choosing between the following two.

(1) 0.82 carat, signature ideal cut ("ideal 0" by AGSL), F color, VS1 clarity

http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-signature-ideal-cut-f-color-vs1-clarity_LD01159439?__fun_frm=i&filter_id=0

I am considering an exact 0.82 carat, because the number "82" has special meanings for us.
If I am choosing this size, can go for better color (F) and clarity (VS1) grades within budget.

(2) 1.03 carat, ideal cut ("ideal 0" by AGSL), H color, VS2 clarity

This diamond is bigger and more expensive, but still within budget, with decent color and clarity.
Cut was rated "ideal 0" from AGSL, very good even though not chosen as "signature ideal" by Blue Nile.

My questions and concerns:
1. Would the 1.03 carat diamond looks a bit too big for finger size 4.5?
2. What would you choose between the two, considering all factors?
3. Other concerns that I should be aware of when comparing these two?

Finally, I am considering a six prong platinum setting from Blue Nile. Any comments on how it looks in real life?

Thanks very much for your advice!

IMO there is not a relationship between finger size and what is an appropriate diamond size, it is truly a matter of what you and your fiance are comfortable with. Some people are comfortable with a diamond that is a third of a carat and would consider a one carat diamond to be ostentatious and then another person would be fine wearing a five carat on the same size finger...

The proportions on the 0.82 carat are preferable in my opinion because the total depth is shallower than that of the 1.03 carat which provides better spread (relationship between the outside diameter of the diamond and the total depth).

Ditto Todd

Go for the 0.82 then.

How sweet to incorporate that element into your engagement ring! Another vote for the .82
