Hey guys, just wanted to have you chime in! I noticed there's a gap between my prong and diamond (the other 3 prongs seem to be in good contact) and I wanted your opinion if this is minor, or if I should be more concerned? The diamond does not appear loose if I try to move it. I am beginning to question my jeweler's abilities as this is a ring he redid after I found several cosmetic flaws in the first ring however if this doesn't seem too major then perhaps I won't be as critical

Thanks for your input :)

The stone is not resting properly in the prong seat. I’ve had this happen to me in the past. I would take it back and point it out. I want my stone securely seated in all the prong seats. It is not a big deal for them to fix this. Do not be embarrassed to expect this reasonable level of precision.

Thank you for your response. I took it back to the store yesterday, and the owner told me that his jeweller said that since my diamond was cut "unevenly", and because there was a pre-existing chip on the girdle, it had to be mounted that way for the diamond to be level. It sounded like an excuse to me though, but I haven't had the best experience so far with this store. I asked him if this would affect the security of the diamond, and he said that it would take 2 prongs to fail.. I'm pretty sure that's false, right??

Was there a preexisting chip that you are aware of? I hope the chip wasn't created when they worked with the stone.

Hi! Yes, the chip was already there before we got it set. That would have been upsetting though..

Sorry, that is total bs.
You rotate the stone to put the chip next to the prong not under it and you mount it properly.
Its not the diamond that's uneven.

Hi, the chip is quite superficial.. In your opinion it would be best not to cover the chip with the prong?

In general I am not a fan of putting chips under prongs.
Its putting pressure on an already weakened area just sitting there, the prong gets hit and it becomes a lot of pressure.

Certainly not like that where all the pressure is on a tiny part of the stone.
It is just begging to be popped out and cause more damage to the stone.

I was hoping you’d chime in Karl. I was going to advise OP to go to another jeweler and get the stone properly set.
