Hi all
So now I’m moving forward with my e-ring and it has a bridge so my band will sit flush. Now the jeweler is saying the bridge (<1mm width) is too thin for the diamond (1.8). Can’t they put some more metal on the bridge? Has anyone ever been told this before? I mean I’m 3.75 finger size I understand all the nooks are super tiny already. But like the ring costs 600 bucks but the labor costs 1000 to modify this and that. I’d like second opinion if they’re telling me the truth or not. Please advice what are my options? Thank you!

You'll really need to include some up close pictures or some cad drawings so we can see the design of the ring to know exactly what you are talking about. Can you post pics, drawings or cads?

We've had some spirited discussions about whether rings these days are too thin - here's one, but you can google more if you want:

The platform part of a bridge style ring should certainly be part of this discussion. While it's safe from some types of damage that a shank might endure (i.e.m damage from gripping or lifting heavy objects), a platform is up there, kind of exposed, and could be more easily damaged by accidental blows than the shank would be.

I tend to agree with your jeweler - 1 mm is very thin for a platform or platform supports, and could cause you problems down the line. I have an 18k platform 3-stone ring with bezel-set stones. The platform is supported by two arms on each side, arranged in a "V" shape. The base of these arms is 2mm, then it's split and each arm is just over 1mm wide - but as I said, there are two on each side for added strength and stability. I'd be concerned about the durability of a platform supported by 1mm struts, and doubly so if the stone(s) it's supporting are prong-set.

Whoa I wasn't aware the thin ring issue is shared among many. For me the thin band looks elegant that's all. So do you guys advice picking a different setting then? Cuz I want a sturdy home for my diamond my SO worked so hard to afford it.
