I was told today that Platinum wears out. Thoughts.

Wears out in what way? Any metal gets thinner over the years and is subject to dents/scratches etc. White gold needs replating every few years. I think the key here is what other metals are part of the "mix". I wish I could tell you what to seach on, but there have been numerous discussions about this in the past that could help you understand which metal is best suited to your lifestyle/preferences.

Here's an article that might help:

Wears out?! If anything, I've heard that Platinum is the most durable of jewelry metals. It gets a light Patina (scratch marks) over time but these can be polished away indefinitely without removing any of the metal, unlike with gold.

Scratching, polishing will remove metal. Just less than w/ gold so the piece will last longer.

My understanding is that scratching moves the metal on platinum, but it does not take it away like it does with gold.
