MICROPAVE:

I was in Matrin Katz yesterday and they said they NEVER do any sort of micropave in platinum. They said this is because the diamonds have much better staying power set in white gold. When I asked about this with Leon... HE insisted it is much better durability to set in platinum.

Both have the highest quality hand done craftmanship--- any other expert weigh in on subject? I am thinking about some micropave stackable eternity bands and since I know both do beautiful work- wondering about what ones will take the most wear and tear.

CHAINS:

Another interesting note... Martin Katz also said they have switched from using platinum chains to 18 kt white gold chains for most of their pendents because they found platinum chains were much harder to keep clean and customers were always bringing them in to be repolished. I asked if this was just normal patina of platinum and they said no, the white gold chains get cleaner in an ultrasonic machine compared to the platinum. I asked if this were just a matter of ease to replate WG and they said that is not related. Any thoughts about this? I know many PS''ers have platinum link chains.

*Bumping* in hopes that one of resident experts can weigh in. I''d like more info on this as well as I''ve heard conflicting information from different jewelers. I''ve heard some jewelers suggest that platinum should be used for micropave and I''ve had others say that platinum (non-micropave) will look worse than white gold with day to day wear and is harder to upkeep with respect to polish.
